Hypertension (Definition)

A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more

I have had 5 nose bleeds since last week Friday they usually stop quickly I do have high blood pressure?

Nosebleeds: High blood pressure does not generally cause nosebleeds; an exception may be hypertensive crisis, where the BP is very high and causes organ damage. Why do I always have nose bleeds? I am a 45 year old non smoking, non drinking woman of normal weight. 5'4", 129lbs, size 6. I am not taking any medications or supplements of any kind. I have had no recent surgeries. I do not have high blood pressure, ye

You: You may be perfectly normal, or you may have either weakness of the blood vessels or problems with your blood that prevent them from clotting normally. Conditions that lead to weakening of the lining of the blood vessels can result in easy bleeding or excessive bleeding when an injury occurs. Also blood problems that result in excess bleeding can occur with liver problems like cirrhosis or hepatitis, kidney failure, or even genetic problems that result from problems with the normal makeup of the blood.

If you have periods still, are they quite heavy?

Have your nose evaluated by an otolaryngologist and cauterized, if it bleeds heavily in the exam room, consider a complete blood count, blood chemisty, hepatitis and liver panel. A coagulation workup by a hematologist may also be a good idea if these fail to realize the cause. It also may be you are perfectly healthy and these are normal findings. I hope this helps. ...Read more

Need more info: Your blood pressure appears normal. Occam's razor prevailing, I must ask you if you enjoy the recreational use of intranasal cocaine, which could account for this entire symptom complex. Rx nasal sprays: There are two types of rx sprays you can take. Both have very little systemic side effects. Nasal steroids sprays (flonase, rhinocourt, nasonex, (mometasone) veramyst) and also anti-histamine sprays (patanase, astepro, etc) ask your primary md, allergist, or ENT which is best for you. Why do I get lightheaded a lot had normal MRI 4-18-13 & normal mra dec2012 no high blood pressure or any other health problems is this bad? & head pain

May be BP problem: You have symptoms that suggest a problem called autonomic insufficiency (dizzy spells, passing out, headaches). This is common in young women. Essentially the brain can misread the signals being sent by the heart and blood vessels and cause the pulse to go fast (or slow) and the blood pressure to fall making you lightheaded. A tilt table test can diagnose this problem. Talk to your md. ...Read more

No: Nosebleeds caused by high blood pressure is a myth. Two Different Issues: All life based on water containing salts. Salt intake has little effect on blood pressure, thus check BP, preferably using a mercury gauge (only reliable gauge), stethoscope & someone experienced who will teach you how to read systolic (fist palpable) and diastolic (last palpable) pulse under the center of the cuff. While constantly adjusted by brain, very few consciously aware with any accuracy. ...Read more
