While rarely a dietary cause may be found, most often black stools signify blood in the stools, blood that is coming from a little bit higher up in the GI tract. I would never recommend an enema for your child unless specifically ordered by your pediatrician. Proctitis? Colitis?: You have some sort of serious inflammation of the rectum (proctitis) or colon i.e. lower intestine (colitis).
