Your blood: The most likely thing is that it is your blood that he is consuming while breast feeding. If you have any soreness, cracking or irritation of your nipples, they can bleed while he is nursing and he can actually swallow a significant amount of blood from this. If he is thriving, not vomiting, and his poo is just colored, i'd look to you first. ...Read more

Depends on situation: Bright red blood will mean it came from near the exit. Maroon colored from further up the intestines. Many infants that push out a bulky or hard stool will create a scratch in the inside of the anus that will add blood in streaks on the surface of the poo, or small puddles within it. The doc can examine the baby and confirm the finding & advise you on ways to avoid the problem in the future. ...Read more
Bondage or?: Were you bound as in bondage or constipation? Really the mind boggles! If it was the latter, and i'd like to assume it was, perhaps the tearing sensation at your rear would be a clue. If it was painless - but you were bound, then it might be hemorrhoids. But all bleeding requires an explanation and should not be ignored. ...Read more

So I hve noticed that when I go to te restroom weather it's to go pee or poop it has like a metal or bloody smell. Should I be concerned?
Having strong urge to poop followed by bloody stool during workouts. Usually after the 1st 30-45 min on the elliptical. No other problems. Normal?
Had colic and green, bloody, mucus poops. Eliminated all allergens from my diet and gave reflux meds. Baby happy. Poop-no blood and orange. Why mucus still?
Likely caused the previous symptoms in your baby and you resolved these by adjusting your diet resulting in a happy baby with orange stool and ongoing mucous. Orange color to the stool is a variant of normal and of no concern. It will take longer for the mucous to stop as the inflammation that caused the bloody stools has to heal. Have your pediatrician check to see that your baby is growing and gaining weight well and that there is no longer traces of blood in the stool. Rarely a baby will have an enterocolitis caused by milk proteins and if present there will be traces of blood in the stool not necessarily visible. This is unlikely if the baby is comfortable and thriving. If you would like to discuss this in more detail feel free to contact me though Concierge at www. Healthtap. Com/freisleben
