Whats the easiest / most painless glucometer?

Whats the easiest / most painless glucometer?

All similar: Pain tolerance varies from person to person. All the glucometers work similarly. Some of the lancet devices may be a bit different, but all poke a hole to make the blood come out. I like the ones that come from Bayer (aspirin) company, but i'd ask a pharmacy what they sell the most of and what their feedback is. I've used several in my office and all seem quite similar. ...Read more

What do you advise if I'm looking for a strip-free glucometer?

No such thing: Hi. There's no such thing as a "strip-free glucometer". Sorry, but at least for the time being, you're stuck buying strips! If you're tightly controlled using insulin, you could consider a continuous glucose monitor with your doctor; with the Dexcom, you only have to use a strip + glucometer every 12 hours for calibration. But no matter what, you're stuck buying strips for now. ...Read more

Glucometer giving erratic readings. Will be 101 in one sample, then 81 in another, immediately after. Calibrated correctly too. Is this typical?

Glucometer giving erratic readings. Will be 101 in one sample, then 81 in another, immediately after. Calibrated correctly too. Is this typical?

Variation: Hi. Yes, that would be considered probably acceptable variation. They would generally probably be tighter, but if your control solution gets measured in the appropriate range, then your meter is probably meeting performance standards. We endocrinologists all get meters to give to patients, so ask your endo for a new one if yours is old and you're concerned about its performance. Good control! ...Read more

BG levels all over the place w/home glucometer. After waking I took 5 consecutive samples: 82, 105, 55, 93, & 90. Calibrated properly. What's up?

Glucometer: The glucometer is only plus/minus 20%. It is designed to give a number that a diabetic can use to adjust his insulin dose. Of those 5 numbers, they are all consistent except for the 55. How much blood did you get? Did you have to "milk" your finger? Was there still alcohol on the finger? All these things can affect the reading. ...Read more
