Had deep vein thrombosis and blood clot in leg veins. Should I be worried?

Had deep vein thrombosis and blood clot in leg veins. Should I be worried?

Yes - w/o treatment: Dvt can break free from your deep veins, travel through your bloodstream, and lodge in your lungs. This clot can block blood flow in your lungs, which can strain your heart and lungs. This pulmonary embolism is a medical emergency. Dvt can also lead to chronic vein problems and swelling treatment with blood thinners is very effective in reducing risk. Compression stocking also recommended. ...Read more

What happens when a blood clot obstructs a blood vessel?

What happens when a blood clot obstructs a blood vessel?

Depends: It depends if the vessel is an artery or a vein, the size of the vessel, collateral circulation, co-existing illnesses etc. Blood clot in a vein can travel to lung and cause lung infarction. Clot in an artery may damage the tissue/organ supplied by that artery. Heart attack is one example of clot in an artery. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Eyes were white before June. sinus. Eyes still red.Dialited blood vessels side of eyes and some at bottom.Could this be a blood clot?eye exam normal

Chances high not: blood clot, but perhaps irritated eyes! If you still have your sinusitis brewing that's not helping matters. So if your eye exam is normal, and they did a dilated exam too, you are in the clear. Your dilated blood vessels needs to be investigated if it's from contact lens overuse, dry eyes, or other causes. ...Read more

Is it more likely to get a blood clot in the same veins as before?

Is it more likely to get a blood clot in the same veins as before?

Yes/no: There are 2 kinds of blood clots-superficial and deep. Superficial occurs in veins under the skin and can recur in the same veins. Deep clots(dvt) usually occurs in different veins because once a clot forms in the vein, the vein is usually scarred and narrowed so it doesn't tend to reclot, although it can. Usually with recurrent dvt, the new clot tends to occur in different veins. ...Read more

I had a blood clot in my left bicep 5 years ago. Clot is gone, but now why do I have big green veins on my left bicep, chest & left ribs instead?

Collaterals: You thrombosed more than your "biceps". You are fortunate you just have this. Your thrombus probably occluded the drainage from your entire upper extremity. The blood now gets back from your arm via a different route. Mr. Stallone had the same thing happen while making "Cliffhanger" and covered the new veins with a tattoo. ...Read more
