Blood Transfusion For Low Blood Count
Gastric cancer that has spread to bones I pelvis, spine and legs. Very low blood count. Transfusions not working due to bone marrow being affected.?
It should help:
Blood tansfusion should help. However, it will last only for a short period of time. It will be shorter time if you have active bleeding. You should get your treatment started asap- off course, with the support of blood transfusion and growth support. Eventually, when the cancer is in better controlled under treatment, your bone marrow hopefully would gradually hwork again.

I went to ER last night I have chronic anemia my blood count was 7.5 was it safe that they sent me home with no transfusion usually when I'm that low?
Depends: If you are dizzy, short of breath or have any symptoms you should go back to the emergency room. If your hemoglobin is normally at 7.5 then it is likely that is why they have not transfused you. I would go back to the emergency room should there be more concern. Good luck. Read more

It's on the low side: But falls within the normative range for an adult. Total WBC count is not necessarily the most important or informative parameter to focus on. There are several different types of white blood cell, each with unique functionality, that in combination comprise the totality of our cellular immune response. Each cell type has a normal range. More important is the infection history of the patient. Read more
Anemia: Is another term for low blood counts. There are multiple causes including but not at all limited to blood loss (menstrual periods, bleeding from the GI tract), nutritional deficiencies (iron, folate, (folic acid) b 12), chronic illnesses, medications, and bone marrow problems. Your dr. Should be able to help you figure out what is causing your low blood counts and if it's serious or not. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Low cells: A "low blood count" usually means a low value or # of cells in the CBC (complete blood count). There are many numbers in a cbc, but the main ones are HGB (measure of red blood cells = rbc), WBC (=white bc), and platelets. The other numbers and "differential" help further clarify the cyto (=cell)penia (=low). Additional labs or a bone marrow biopsy may be necessary to evaluate. Read more
Anemia and more:
Low red cell count means anemia and it can be due to many reasons. Low white blood cell counts have a broader spectrum and each type of white cell count has different meaning. See this site for more info on low white cell counts.

Why do you ask?: Lab reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthy people fall outside on either end. It's a mistake to think that the center of the range is best. If you feel well and you're not actually below the range, life's too short (and the chances of a working doing anything more than waste effort and money) to trouble yourself over it. Read more
Low blood counts: Low red cells causes anemia. The symptoms of anemia can be fatigue, dizziness, pallor, chest pain, and shortness of breath. Low white cells make the patient susceptible to fever and a variety of infections. Low platelets make one likely to have bruising, bleeding, or petechiae (small purple freckles on the skin). Possible.: Anemia can make people lightheaded. Actually losing consciousness would be very unusual unless the anemia was severe and the person did something really strenuous. More common anemia symptoms are fatigue, feeling cold, mild headache, shortness of breath with exercise, lack of stamina, and generalized weakness. Read more
It depends upon....: The blood counts to which you are referring. If you mean anemia, the overwhelmingly most common reason for a low rbc count in the us is fe deficiency, in part because of our typically fe poor diet, and exacerbated by a monthly blood loss in women. Fe deficiency, however, is due tof an underlying primary problem to be discovered and corrected. For low WBC count, viral suppression is most common. Read more
