Don't ignore it!: If you are having blood and mucus in your stool, your colon is quite unhappy. Mesavant most likely won't hurt your kidneys and will help turn off the inflammation in your gut. Talk to your doc about it more but also consider your stress, your diet and possible infection as other things that could cause these symptoms. ...Read more

Would mucus in stool that comes and goes for a bit every few months be a symptom of colon cancer? No other symptoms. No blood that can see.

Unlikely: Mucus is not suggestive of cancer. Unless you have family history of early onset colon cancer, you may wait till you are 50-years old to get a screening colonoscopy.
If you are concerned you may do FIT testing to test for occult blood in stool. If that is positive, you should see a doctor.

At colonoscopy the growth might be able to be removed or might be judges too large to remove safely but pieces (biopsies) will be obtained to tell what it is.
