(2) others interfere with some of the clot forming proteins (warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, etc.), (3) others stimulate the blood clot destruction ...Read more
What blood thinner can I take after my carotid surgery if stomach ulcers make it impossible for me to take aspirin?
It depends: Generally Aspirin is still safe in those with a history ulcers so long as acid medications such as omeprazole, nexium, (esomeprazole) protonix, prevacid, etc are taken along with it to prevent recurrence. You should have taken a similar medication to heal the ulcer. If you are allergic to Aspirin or intolerant for some other reason a medication such as Plavix may be reasonable. Discuss with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ex has stomach cancer & told me dr found lg blood clot in lung BUT sent home & 2 increase blood thinner??! Seriously?? Wouldn't that kill him?
Anticoag may be good: If Ex has stomach cancer has it been resected or still present. Many tumors have hypercoagulable state and wind up with venous clts that can embolize to lung. A lung scan would show extend to problem and O3 levels would be valuable. Suspect clot not enough to impare breathing so that anticoags would be effective if he is followed closely. Also important is status of the Ca and therapy used. ...Read more

Uncertain: There is very limited information. I was able to find 1 case report suggesting that garcinia prolonged the inr in a patient taking warfarin. No data on newer anticoagulants or anti-platelet agents. Since the exact contents of any "dietary supplement" preparation is not guaranteed, always be cautious when mixing supplements with potent medications like warfarin. ...Read more
Prevents clots: Blood thinners are any medications that inhibit steps in the pathway that leads to clotting. Aspirin and plavix, (clopidogrel) for example, inhibit platelet cells in the bloodstream from clumping together. Coumadin (warfarin) thins the blood by inhibiting the proteins in the blood that lead to deposition of fibrin, which makes up the bulk of clot material. ...Read more

Not a good idea: While there is no direct interaction between the active ingredient thc and what i assume you refer to as warfarin (blood thinner) the risk of injury and unintended bleeding increases with any substance that affects judgement, coordination, and balance which will happen with marijuana. So, no, i don't think it is ok, but that's just me. ...Read more
