Severe insomnia since last two to three months.. I got my blood tests done and my serum ferritin came out to be v low around 5..Are they related?
Insomnia : Low ferritin levels indicate that you are at a higher risk of having iron deficiency anemia. Although there is no link between iron deficiency and insomnia there is a relationship between restless leg syndrome and low iron levels. In restless leg syndrome patients feel a need to move their legs when in bed keeping them from sleeping. Check with your doctor to see if replacing iron is necessary. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Eosinophil %, potassium, and chloride are all regularly high in my blood tests for the last 2 years. Why?
Need more info: What are the actual values? If you are otherwise healthy, you can ignore slightly elevated lab tests. It you wish to know why it would be prudent to discuss it with the doctor who ordered the tests. ...Read more
My blood tests showed anion gap, serum 9 mmol/l and iron % saturation 22%. Any connection or reason for concern? Both flagged as low.
Abnormal labs: Low anion gap is usually a lab error, so it is spuriously low. A recheck would probably "correct" it. Low iron saturation cannot be interpreted by itself, as there are additional measurements needed to compliment the picture such as red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, iron level and iron binding capacity as well as ferritin level. ...Read more

Rheumatologist: If you have not been evaluated by a rheumatologist, I recommend that you do so in view of the high RA factor and positive ANA and slightly elevated sed rate. These tests are at times nonspecific and your clinical findings have to be taken into consideration for diagnostic purposes. ...Read more
Blood tests showed sodium 141, potassium 4, chloride 99, bicarb 22 which gives me a high anion gap of 24. As I am fatigued could this indicate cancer?

Depends: Depending on what kind of blood tests are being done, you may need to fast. If you are having a metabolic panel, liver panel or cholesterol panel you will need to fast. Probably would be best if you check with your ordering physician to make sure that you understand what you need to do. This will make you avoid potentially abnormal results or the need for a repeat test later. ...Read more

Interpretation: Just looking at a panel of tests can be instructive, but is a set-up for mistakes. Talking to a pathologist who understands testing can also help to resolve concerns or point you in the right directions. ...Read more
