Blood Test Shows Falsely Elevated Calcium Levels
Can taking caltrate plus make my calcium levels to high dr said blood test results show high calcium levels and to stop taking them?
46 yo female. My calcium level in blood test is 10.2. Is that high? Had thyroid scan for nodules. Would that also show parathyroid if there's an issue?
High Clcium: Check with your local lab normals. And ask team who ordered rd it they know H better. Scan no likely to show parathyroids. ...Read more
I have blood test results that show low calcium levels, low PTH levels, and confirmed hypothyroidism due to high TSH. what does this mean?
Calcium PTH, Thyroid: Confirmed hypothyroidism s a clear message that the TSH is working hard to increase thyroid hormone but without success. Treatment will have to be with thyroid hormone taken by mouth. Unlikely, but the surgeon might want to remove your thyroid gland since it is not working properly. ...Read more
Have diagnosis of pcos, hypothyroid, venous insufficiency. 2 blood test in 6mths show elevated WBC and calcium and ck serum of 20. What could cause?
My husband had a blood test to cheeck calcium levels 6 months ago it was low and told to use caltrate plus now dr said to stop cause it's to high why?
Get a consult: You don't treat a lab value. Reference ranges are set so that a few % of healthies fall outside. A true low serum calcium in an adult who appears healthy is uncommon (calculate ionized calcium, which is what matters, based on albumin), and possible hypoparathyroidism or renal calcium wasting should be worked up. I trust vitamin d levels have been checked. Endocrinology consult is in order. ...Read more
If the Dr did a blood test to check electrolytes and magnesium would that show if calcium and magnesium were at the wrong ratio ?
I just had a recent blood test and it showed that my calcium was 10.7 and my albumin level was 5.4. Should I look more at the adjusted level or 10.7?
Hi! Today I have to get a blood test to check my calcium levels. Do you think it would affect my results because I am on my period?
No: It will have no effect on the results. ...Read more
I have low Hemoglobin and high levels of calcium. Frequent tachycardia episodes made me do the blood test. What can this be? Thanks
Calcium, serum level 10.3 says its high on my blood test results, but my doctor failed to even seem concerned about it should I be?
Normal: Laboratories have different reference ranges, which is why it was listed as high. 10.3 is within normal range for adults. ...Read more
Routine blood test showed calcium level low at 8.2. Normal is 8.7-10.2. Vit D on low end of normal at 36. CBC normal. Should I be concerned?
My dr. Said my calcium levels tested high. I took two 750mg Tums (calcium carbonate) a couple of hours before the 1st blood test. Would that affect the result?
No: A bit of antacid won't put your calcium in the high range. Your workup will include a repeat. If you have sarcoid, a parathyroid adenoma, have been overdoing vitamin d, or have some other cause of hypercalcemia, or whether this is an artifact or lab error, it will get sorted out -- and it's important. Good luck in the weeks to come. ...Read more
42yo male, blood test ->higher than normal estradiol levels & GI stool test ->high beta-glucaronidase - what's this mean? Take calcium D glucarate?
Get a consult: Most of this stuff about beta-glucuronidase in the stool comes from "independent medical thinkers" focused on gut flora and isn't mainstream. The scientific papers I've seen come from obscure institutions. And why are you having your estradiol checked? Reference ranges on labs are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. I'd get a second, mainstream opinion. ...Read more
My daughter's 18,recent blood test shows high prolactin 83.At age 17-high calcium.Good appetite but losing weight, only 6stone now.Endocrine or cancer?
Is there a blood test that shows if your calcium intake is sufficient? Does it need to be combined with Vitamin D as well?
How serious is it to have low vitamin d levels? My blood test showed 18 vit d, but my doc said to ignore that bc calcium level is normal. True?
Take the D: You need at least 2000 units of vitamin d3/day and recheck your levels in 3 mos. Or so. They are not dangerous, but need to be improved. Also make sure your thyroid level is normal and that you are receiving brand name T4 replacement, as the generics are unreliable. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Ive been advised to take calcium and vitamin D supplements as my last blood test showed I have low calcium levels. How long will they take to work?
What does it mean if my blood test shows high ast, alt, vitm b12, calicum, bun/creati, neutrophils & sed rate. Low hct, hgb?
Insufficient info: All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. It would also help to know the actual values of the test results. ...Read more
Calcium blood test showed 10.0. I eat very little dairy, if any dairy. Thought about supplementing. Necessary in lieu of result?
Blood calcium test was 10.5. Took calcium right before blood test. Could this be why it was high?
Basic chemistry: About half of the calcium in your blood is protein-bound, mostly to albumin, and therefore exerts no phsyiologic effect. The rest is the active form and is what is regulated and what matters. The ionized calcium can be estimated from a formula using albumin, or measured directly by a more difficult technique. Total calcium is easy to measure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What does blood test of ionized calcium mean? What does it measure? What does it mean if the ionized calcium is below the normal range?
Can't tell: By itself any one blood test, normal or abnormal, means absolutely nothing unless there is some context. You can't determine the significance of this without knowing when it was drawn, why it was drawn, and whether there are any other abnormal tests. Sometimes it means absolutely nothing. Ask the doctor who drew it. ...Read more
Free calcium: There is a total calcium blood test that measures both ionized calcium and calcium attached to proteins. You may need to have a separate ionized calcium test if you have factors that increase or decrease total calcium levels, such as abnormal blood levels of Albumin or immunoglobulins. ...Read more
I am 25 yrs old. I had my blood test and got report low calcium and high in mchc; mch; mcv. What these terms mean?
Not enough info.: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. The ordering doctor may or may not consider the results a problem, depending on the patient's symptoms and her past medical conditions. ...Read more
