Many things.: High platelets can occur with bleeding, iron deficiency and inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. They can be high due to a blood disorder (myeloproliferative neoplasia). Platelets also can be elevated in response to serious illnesses. The cause should be investigated, found and if possible treated. ...Read more
Been very ill. Some of my blood test came back still waiting on many. Platelet count of 679, white blood count high 14, rdw 23, neutrophilid 11?
High WBC count.: In what you’ve provided here, your WBC count is high, which in and of itself could suggest infection or inflammation. The platelet count is likewise high, but this could be just reactive (the platelet count is an acute phase reactant) or it could mean that the bone marrow is generally proliferative. Not enough here to really. Hazard a guess. ...Read more
I took a blood test when my ulcerative colitis flared up. My ast/alt level was about 65 and my platelet count was high. Is it high bc of the flare?
How high: Was your platelet count? If it is less than 1 million, it should not become an excessive clotting problem. Platelet counts that are slightly elevated are common in inflammatory conditions, such as uc flare up. Ast and alt levels are also affected by many things, but in this range it is usually self limited. Have these studies checked again in a few weeks at your GI doctor's office. ...Read more

My last blood test showed my platelet count as 122K (just gotten over a cold a few days prior). Since normal range is 140-400K, should I be concerned?
No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your result is not a cause for concern. Your doctor can repeat the test in a few months. ...Read more

Lowers platelets: Checked into this from different sources and found that it lowers platelets and depresses bone marrow thereby decreasing all components of the blood including white cell counts. Advil (ibuprofen) also does the same, if u r taking it. Adverse reactions usually occurs only if u take these medications for long or too frequently. One or two doses to prevent motion sickness should be safe. ...Read more
What to do if I had a blood test my red blood cell is 4.83 and platelet count 421 is that dangerous?
Not dangerous: Your platelet count is slightly high, normal count being 150-350, 000. Red blood is best measured with hemoglobin level. Although your platelet count right now is of no serious medical concern, it may be worth rechecking it once more in one month and see if it drops below 400, 000. Anything over 450, 000 would need further attention and medical examination by a hematologist. ...Read more
Had a blood test done, and the doc said he had a low blood platelet count and will need to be retested. Is that something serious?
Depends how: Low and if you have any other abnormalities in your blood work. Low platelets can cause delay in blood clotting. If you are not having any problems with bleeding, I would not worry too much. Follow your doctor's advice and have re-test first before you get too worried. Lab errors do occur. Isolated finding of low platelets could mean itp, a treatable disease. ...Read more
Does a routine psa blood test also tell you your platelet count? I just want to know if the low platelet count also shows up on a psa blood test
No, . ..: Testing PSA is a biochemical procedure and testing platelet count is a counting procedures; so the blood specimens for both are collected & tested in different ways. So, they cannot be done with the same specimen. If you like to know more about the clinical significance of PSA, go to http://www. Formefirst. Com/FreeInfoProstate. Html. ...Read more
I had a blood test done a while ago and I had a normal platelet count but a low mpv (6.3) and the only symptom I have is foamy urine. What could this?
Test results: I doubt there is a connection between low platelet volume and your foamy urine. Did they check your urine itself? Or check your kidney function? Do you feel well? Any test can give falsely abnormal results, or results that are not in the normal range, but it doesn't really matter as long as you feel well. If you are well, don't worry. If worried, as to repeat the test, check the urine and kidneys. ...Read more
What does it mean if my recent blood test results show that I have a high platelet and white blood cell count?
See a doctor: This can be one of several things. If you are otherwise completely healthy, it may indicate a bone marrow disease called polycythemia vera. If you have medical conditions or are on certain medications, it can indicate inflammation or infection. Please see your doctor or a hematologist to help sort this out. ...Read more
Had blood test, as have dizzy spells, and feel like going to pass out, platelet count 122, doctor referred me to see a cardiologist, what could problem be?
See below: Dizziness could result of being dehydrated, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), anemia. The cardiologist is a good referral to rule out mitral valve prolapse, which can cause dizzy spells and palpitations. Your platelet count is a slightly low; however, if you are not having increased bruising/bleeding and you are not anemic, just repeat it in 6 months-year. Your 'normal' plt count may be this level ...Read more

Yes it is possible b:
You have mild anemia (Hb of 11.2 Gm, normal being >12 Gms). To find the cause, you have to do additional tests like check your blood iron levels and also check for any excessive bleeding or blood loss from an internal organ. This will require a visit with a PCP.

Rbc count, WBC count, platelet count, RBC index, WBC differential count, hb, hct all blood test normal. Facing bleeding gum problem recently. Opinion?
Not blood's fault: If CBC normal as you say, more likely due to a change in the oral environment/ dental hygiene. Consider this to see if any change in brush/floss frequency or duration, change in tobacco or alcohol product use, or change in life stressors. In the interim, be sure you are brushing twice daily and flossing daily--this should stop bleeding--if not, consult dentist for exam and advice. ...Read more

Hard to say: If the alkaline phosphatase was high while other liver enzymes were normal, it can indicate many things - gallbladder or bone problems would be high on the list. Additional tests to break down the alk phos and additional tests of liver, gallbladder and bone function can help make a diagnosis. However, it is not uncommon to have mild-moderate elevations of alk phos and never find a cause. ...Read more
