Blood Pressure Top Number High Bottom Number Low
What does it mean to have a lil high top number and a lil low bottom number in blood pressure? What is normal range?
How do you feel?: "Low blood pressure" is a pop diagnosis. The numbers (top is highest it gets when the heart beats, bottom is lowest when the heart relaxes) need only be high enough to keep the blood flowing around your body. Stop worrying about "normal ranges" and ask the real question -- is your body working? ...Read more
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more
Stiff Vessels: Firstly, the most common scenario is inaccurate measurement. But if that's not the case, it could indicate stiff arteries. There are, however, many explanations. If this is a regular finding, talk to your cardiologist about it. ...Read more
What does it mean if the top number is high on a blood pressure reading but not the bottom number?
My blood pressure was 157/73 should I take a blood pressure pill now or wait later. I know the top is high but I'm worried about the bottom getting to?
Common, not normal: Many possible causes. Frequently part of aging effects on arteries, making them less flexible. It commonly happens with anxiety, pain, strenuous exertion. It should not always be like this when tested. There are medications that work well for this type of high blood pressure. If either systolic and diastolic number stay high, there is risk for heart attack and stroke, and both need treatment. ...Read more
Go see your doctor: Actually, first re-measure it (which I'm sure you've already done). Then take a deep breath, wait 5 minutes (don't hold your breath! Just breathe normally) & recheck. Also, check your equipment. Did you drop/damage your BP cuff? Run out of meds? Start smoking (more)? Drinking (more)? Stop exercising? Eat more salt or salty foods? Sleep less than usual? Be sure to bring BP cuff in for calibration ...Read more

What's cause my blood pressure to be a little high on the bottom number, could it be a possible sign of preganacy? Never had this problem before.
No: It's not an early sign of pregnancy. Be sure you're measuring it at complete rest for 10 minutes, use a validated, properly sized arm cuff, measure at the level of your heart, take measurements on multiple days and average them. If it averages >90, consider salt intake, weight, and be checked for kidney function with urinalysis and blood sample. Avoid licorice, XS alcohol, recreational drugs. ...Read more

Blood pressure 124/74. Paulse 68. Which number matters more? Top sys. Bottom dia. Paulse should be around?
BP reading: The more important number of your blood pressure is the systolic one, in your case, 124. The diastolic one, 74, is less important. Cardiovascular events occur more frequently and are related to the elevation of the systolic bp. Your blood pressure should be below 140 systolic if one is not a diabetic and at 130 if one has diabetes. Your pulse of 68 is fine and should go up with exercise. ...Read more
What happen if I check my blood pressure but the bottom number said 67 what does that mean and the top number was 127?
An excellent reading:
An ideal blood pressure is 120/70 or less. While it is possible for a person to have too low a blood pressure, this rarely happens unless the patient is on too much medication to treat high blood pressure. A blood pressure of 130/80 or less is still fine. We usually start treatment for readings of 140/90 and higher.
In short, your reading is great. Don't touch a thing. ...Read more
I have high blood pressure and I am on medication, is it normal for the blood pressure to spike while exercising, especially the bottom number?
My blood pressure fluncuates between extreamly low to extreamly high as does my pulse. What is a safe normal fluncuating number I know 120/80 is ideal?
Varies: Older a person is, and the more risk factors for stroke and heart disease, the more dangerous fluctuations could be. Normal to have large fluctuations during exercise, extreme anxiety/stress. If at rest, something may be wrong. Heart rhythm testing, checking for medical conditions that could cause this- hyperthyroidism, adrenal problems- is needed. BP can feel like it is fluctuating and be normal. ...Read more
