BP at the Grocery: Blood pressure monitors need to be calibrated periodically, especially if they get a lot of use. They should be accurate. If you have a concern that it might not be, ask when it was last calibrated or have it checked manually. You could try checking it at more than one store and see if the readings are similar, too. If not, one of the machines is likely wrong. ...Read more

Normal For You: An "average" blood pressure is 120/80 which means 120 mm mercury systolic (full heart pump) and 80 mm mercury diastolic (heart at rest between beats). Many other factors enter into the number which makes it higher or lower, but normal for you. Example: athletes BP is usually lower, the elderly have higher bp's but both are prefectly fine. Find what is normal for you. Extremes are bad. ...Read more
See below: The cuff is put around the arm and inflated. The pressure is increased enough to totally cut off flow through the artery. When the cuff is deflated, sounds are heard when flow begins. That is the systolic pressure. When the cuff further deflates, eventually there is no collapse of the artery at all and then the sounds disappear or muffle. That is the diastolic pressure. ...Read more

A blood pressure lower in legs suggests a blockage to blood flow. ...Read more
Can you hurt yourself by using to small of a blood pressure cuff? I used mine and my wrist was hiring bad by time I was done.
Injury unlikely: I have seen bruising on the upper arm due to blood pressure cuff getting too tight. This is usually only a problem with automatic cuffs. Pain in the wrist could result from a cuff becoming too tight resulting in pressure on a nerve that runs down to the wrist. This should resolve shortly without causing damage. Ensure that your blood pressure cuff is proper size to ensure accurate results. ...Read more

When taking blood pressure home with cuff how leveled does your arm have to be wth heart and how snug does cuff have to be.
Try this: The cuff should fit snugly but not be stretched, neither should if feel uncomfortable. If this occurs then the BP might register as artificially higher than it truthfully is.
