Blood Pressure Danger Levels
How low is too low for blood pressure when starting a new medication or increasing it? What is the danger level? I had 75/51 (doxazosin) 1 mg increase
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more

My blood pressure has not been normal lately but I love walking am I in danger of hurting my self even more by walking?
Probably Not: Most people's blood pressure will go up slightly during exercise. However, people who exercise regularly tend to lower their overall blood pressure. If untreated, however, high blood pressure becomes a significant risk factor for heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. I would recommend regular f/u with your physician to ensure appropriate treatment, but also would keep exercising. ...Read more
How low?: It's normal for healthy 30 year olds to have "low bp" and this is actually a sign of above average health. For instance, 80/60 if you're feeling fine and otherwise healthy would be very good. But if your normal BP is 140/80, you become ill, and your BP drops to 80/60, it's quite serious! so, it's relative. There are limits: i've never seen a healthy adult with a BP of <80 systolic (top number). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have high blood pressure, 148 or 142. I don't know what the cause is. Am i in danger of something if i don't stop my high blood pressure?
Have health anxiety, blood pressure around 135/95 sometimes slightly higher. Am i in immediate danger? Cant see a doctor. Exercise? Type?
Not immediate danger: Being 25 and no other health issue, BP of 135/95 is somewhat high but not immediately concerning at this time. Regular aerobic exercise can lower BP as well as losing wt. 10lbs of wt loss can reduce about 3-5 BP point. Google up the dash diet, and start exercise regularly and I am sure your BP will improve. If persistent, consult doc. Either way, see doc regularly. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It depends...: Numbers are just numbers... and mean little without context (without knowing the big picture). 86/41 is normal for younger children. It is too low for a person who gets lightheaded from low blood pressure. It is too low for adults. Whether it's dangerous depends on what the person's usual blood pressure is, how fast the pressure changes happened, and whether there are symptoms or past disorders. ...Read more
Caveman like...: 90/50 is the pressure we'd all have if we lived in a salt-free environment and got plenty of exercise. The only danger of this BP is when the body is chronically used to a much higher one, or the patient is elderly or with a compromised autonomic nervous system (as in with parkinsons) where standing rapidly can cause dizziness or, at worst, passing out. ...Read more
Less than 120/80: Normal blood pressure (BP) is less than 120/80 for all adults. While we don't treat most unless repeated BP greater than 140/90, we won't treat elderly (older than 60yo) until greater than 150/90 on 2 or more occasions. With that said, recent studies show no benefit to driving BP down below 120/80. Instead, taking enough meds to drop below 140/90 (or 150/90 if older) is fine. Don't forget lifestyl ...Read more
Pressure: Blood pressure is the force that blood is pumped into your arteries. It is obviously important to have enough pressure to supply oxygen and other nutrients to your organs, but a pressure that is too low can cause dizziness, syncope, or death. A pressure that is too high increased your risk for heart attack, heart failure, renal failure, and stroke. ...Read more
