I was cleaning my son ears and 1 had black stuff then after the q-tip has blood on it?

Ear canal trauma: Old blood in the ear canal will form a dark scab. When this scab is detached prematurely, the original scratch underneath is likely to bleed again. It is impossible to determine the cause of the original trauma without an examination.

Tiny trace amount of blood on q-tip after using to clean ear?

Tiny trace amount of blood on q-tip after using to clean ear?

Q-Tips bad idea, too: Big ; pack cerumen (ear wax) deeper into canal, the portion you do not see come out. Only the middle third of the ear canal skin secretes waxes which help prevent infection ; slowly remove particles/bacteria from ear canal in association with chewing. This skin is also quite thin, over bone ; can easily be traumatized. Better strategy:: work shampoo into each canal with finger tips at hair wash.

Cleaned my ear and had blood on q tip. Now short stabbing headache and dizziness that won't go away.?

Cleaned my ear and had blood on q tip. Now short stabbing headache and dizziness that won't go away.?

Dizziness: The dizziness suggests damage to the inner ear. You must get a hearing test ASAP and if there is a difference in the two ears, see an ENT. In the meantime do not blow your nose try to sleep with the effected ear up You may have ruptured the round window of your inner ear.

Likely scraped canl: You likely scraped the ear canal but could have punctured the ear drum. It is worth an office visit during regular hours. We encourage parents to avoid Q tips or the "safety Q tips" because they are not. Wax is made in the outer half of the canal and these just push it further in. They are ineffective befoe the teen years at the earliest.

Stop the Q-tips: Sine there is no app yet for looking inside ears yet, I suggest you see your doctor for an examination. Your doctor will likely tell you stop sticking cotton tipped swab sticks in your ear.

Hi, I was cleaning my 3 year Old's ear with q tips this morning and when I pulled the q tip out there was blood on the bud. Is this bad?

Possibly: Q tips can cause a hole in the ear drum. Alternatively it may be an abrasion to the ear canal. Have him examined and keep the ear canal dry. All the best. Avoid Q tips or anything smaller than your elbow. Kids are very mobile and often move during this process.

Please help what can I do? While cleaning out my ears a trace of blood came out on the qtip. Is this serious?

Please help what can I do? While cleaning out my ears a trace of blood came out on the qtip. Is this serious?

Probably ok: While this is probably ok, you should consider an appointment with your primary care for an exam of the ear. May need to get it cleaned out as well. Sometime next week should be fine. Hope this helps!

I saw blood in my ear when I cleaned with q tip? Is this normal?

Blood not normal: Blood in the ear is not normal. However, the blood is not necessarily dangerous. The skin in the ear can be quite sensitive. So, if you are cleaning too aggressively, it can bleed. Also, if you have had an infection or injury, there can be bleeding. The best thing to do would be to have a physician look into the ear. Visualization of the skin and ear drum will likely give you an answer.

My son pushed a q tip in his ear and is in lots of pain but there is not blood that I see. What can I do?

My son pushed a q tip in his ear and is in lots of pain but there is not blood that I see. What can I do?

See below: Don't let him do it again. It will heal on its own, but remind him that the only thing he should place in his ear is his own elbow.

My right ear doesn't hurt but when I cleaned it there is blood on the q-tip. Does this mean anything bad? It has never happened before.

Injury from Q tip: If it was bright blood, it came from using the q tip. It is not necessarily dangerous but if pain develops seek care for external otitis. It is not a good idea to use q tips to clean ears because of the risk of traumatic injury that can be come infected.

No. ..: The main risk is that of a perforated eardrum. See http://patient. Info/health/perforated-eardrum for symptoms and management of this. Keeping the ear canal dry is a mainstay of management. If just an abrasion to the ear canal, this should heal without cleaning. If headache, fever or discharge see your Dr.

Cleaned ear last night. Caughed and had slight pain. Cleaned ear tonight with qtip to find dry blood. Should I worry? No other symptoms & hearing OK

Cleaned ear last night. Caughed and had slight pain. Cleaned ear tonight with qtip to find dry blood. Should I worry? No other symptoms & hearing OK

Probably not: First: don't clean the inside of your ear canal with a Q-tip! They should only be used to clean the outer/visible part of your ear itself. Putting a Q-tip inside the ear canal can force wax and dirt/debris deeper into the canal and can lead to impaction (a plug) of the ear canal wax (cerumen). Also, the Q-tip can injure the wall of the canal and can cause some minor bleeding like you had.

I just used a q tip in my ear and now a very small maybe the size of the font on what I'm typing of blood was on it. Help?

No Q tips: The ear canal has skin which is very thin. So the Qtip made a small rip which bled. The tip here is nothing smaller than the elbow should ever go in your ear

1 doctor agreed:

No swabs in ears pls: You may have impacted wax in your ear and scratched the canal. See ear doctor and never insert any object into your ear again.

Minor trauma: Skin in ear canal is very thin and is often traumatized during cleaning. Don't worry unless it is persistent or becomes painful indicating infection.

See ENT: See ENT doc to make sure you haven't injured the ear drum. Q-tips not a good idea.

See physician: You may have punctured your eardrum and you must have your ears and sinuses checked by an ENT specialist.

Observe: Be gentle next time. Also only if it persists or gets worse and especially if any associated symptoms of deafness or pain plus minus fever will need medical evaluation.

I cleaned my ear & I think I cleaned to deep I heard a POP sound, I took the q tip out and the cotton was full blood, now its just Lil water coming out?

Q-tips terrible tool: For ears, too big & just pushes most wax (cerumen in medical jargon) even deeper compounding the problem. Simply working soap/shampoo & water into ear canal when washing hair both far safer & more effective. Unfortunately, sound like you may have ruptured your ear drum. Best see a good ENT specialist very soon to improve the odds of better healing/repair & less long term damage to hearing.
