Hopefully a urine culture was sent, which will confirm the diagnosis. Unless it is associated with an obvious cause, such as a catheter placement, or symptomatic bladder infection you should be seen by a urologist. This is one of the most common things that we see in our clinic. The evaluation will look for benign things such as kidney stones, bladder stones, or an enlarged prostate, as well as worrisome things such as kidney or bladder cancers - all of which can present with visible blood in the urine.
