If blood & urine cultures are negative due to antibiotics are there pathology results that MAY provide evidence of infection other than WCC & CRP?

If blood & urine cultures are negative due to antibiotics are there pathology results that MAY provide evidence of infection other than WCC & CRP?

Here are some. ..: Despite all medical advance, largely, all medical care today is still based on INDRECT evidence resulting from continual collection & analysis of available experience. So, there is no magi c in life and medicine, if any, that is to apply currently available knowledge, skill, technology, drugs, common sense, and wisdom at reasonable time, place to reasonable patient. That's why a right Doc is vital

White blood cells in urine but urine culture negative. But still have lot of pain while urinating for a 7 yr old male?

White blood cells in urine but urine culture negative. But still have lot of pain while urinating for a 7 yr old male?

Variable causes: If uncircumcised, a trapping of debris under the foreskin can trigger sensitivity or pain. If circ'd, a narrowed outlet may be the issue, with symptoms of a dribble or wild spray with voiding, all should have a strong stream. A visit to a urologist may be worthwhile.

Could sti cause blood in urine and be missed in urine culture, which was negative? Urine showed infection markers but culture was neg -- worried sti

Could sti cause blood in urine and be missed in urine culture, which was negative? Urine showed infection markers but culture was neg -- worried sti

Hematuria: Blood in the urine is rarely due to STI. It could happen, but the main symptom of STI involving the urinary tract is urethriits, with abnormal discharge and often discomfort on urination, but no blood. However, with "infection markers" (WBC?), it is reasonable to test urine for STI, especially gonorrhea and chlamydia. But most likely it's something else, e.g. passing a stone. Keep working w/ MD.

Too complicated: There are too many possibilities and this sort of problem is too dangerous for an opinion on a forum like this. You'll have to keep working with the doctor responsible for your care. Good luck!

I am 20 f. Urine culture 2 weeks ago results showed occult blood of trace. Blood in urine. Now I notice white small shredded like stuff. What is it?

Inconsistent info: Urine culture does not detect blood. If urine culture was negative for bacterial growth, the "white small shredded like stuff" is likely to be mucus and not something to be concerned about. If you do have blood in urine and it was not contamination from menstrual blood, it needs to be evaluated by your doctor.

If the doctor found blood in urine, but the urine culture was normal, would you rule out bladder infection and uti?

If the doctor found blood in urine, but the urine culture was normal, would you rule out bladder infection and uti?

Hematuria: You need to see a urologist (u). Hematuria (h) is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It could be coming from your kidney, or bladder. You need to have various tests to diagnose the cause. A renal ultrasound, an intravenous pyelogram and if these do not give you the cause, a cystoscopy where the urologist looks at your bladder. If the u finds no cause for the h, see a nephrologist as you may have a gn.

Mild pain and blood in urine for 1 day. Urine culture shows protein but no bacteria growth. Blood test for kidneys came back normal. What is this?

Mild pain and blood in urine for 1 day. Urine culture shows protein but no bacteria growth. Blood test for kidneys came back normal. What is this?

Nephritis: Blood and protein in urine does not have to be only with infection. Several other reasons could cause it. Eg kidney stone, glomeruli nephritis, FSGS etc etc. See a neohrologist

My dr 2 days ago run urine culture to check for bladder infection. No blood in urine. Dr sent me to ER to check for appenditicis. Ct scan normal, bloodwork normal, but had urine in blood 2 days later. Why does this happen? Do I actually have uti?

Agree with Dr Garber: If you are on, or just finished your period, urine will show blood. Blood means red cells, without white cells UTI (infection) is much less likely. Need to recheck urine to make sure blood is not still there. If still, with protein, need a nephrologist, if blood without protein in urine, need a urologist.

Clinical context: All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. You doctor's conclusions seems warranted.

Is blood in urine 7mm3 worrisome for a 65 years old woman? Urine test, culture, CT scan of bladder, all came out negative. Wha t else could it be?

Is blood in urine 7mm3 worrisome for a 65 years old woman? Urine test, culture, CT scan of bladder, all came out negative. Wha t else could it be?

Hematuria: The work up should inculde a Urinalysis with C&S, CT Urogram (to assess the whole collecting system including the kidneys and ureters and bladder and Urethra), and finally a Cystoscopy which will asses the superior aspect of the Bladder that may not be completely visualized on the CT Urogram. If all these tests come back normal, may be simple irritation of the urethra or somewhere else to monitor.

total hysterectomy with unilateral oophorectomy on July 3. Pain with urination, blood in urine with neg culture. Bleeding red blood. Normal?

Here are some. ..: If what you have felt since the surgery has not gradually improved as usually expected within 2 months after surgery despite no UTI as cultured, you would need a cystoscopy to make sure of no inadvertent surgical injury to bladder, though not common but possible. So, contact your surgeon timely for detail. Best wish. ..

If a child presents with end-of-stream (terminal) gross hematuria, what is the standard workup after an xray shows no stones and urine culture normal?

If a child presents with end-of-stream (terminal) gross hematuria, what is the standard workup after an xray shows no stones and urine culture normal?

Here's my thought...: How old is the child? Did he have any change in his usual voiding pattern? If everything as reported to be okay, it's most likely, he has non-bacterial self-limiting urethritis so just watch and see. If not going away as expected or recurring, taking a direct look with scope may be helpful, but rarely needed. So, keep in touch with and ask doc timely.

Blood in urine for 6 mos. Cystoscope normal. Bleed from urethra solid wk before each monthly period. A lot of pus in urine. Cultures show no infection?

Blood in urine for 6 mos. Cystoscope normal. Bleed from urethra solid wk before each monthly period. A lot of pus in urine. Cultures show no infection?

I would stick with: Your Urologist and see if he can help you. Aseptic or interstitial cystitis is a condition similar to what you described, and the bleeding from the urethra may be part of a systemic inflammatory response that must be ruled out, such as urethritis secondary to reactive arthritis. Thanks for trusting in HealthTap.

I did a urine culture to see if I still have uti. It came back no UTI but trace of blood. Why is there trace of blood if no uti.

I did a urine culture to see if I still have uti. It came back no UTI but trace of blood. Why is there trace of blood if no uti.

Several reasons.: Trace blood can be identified in urinary tract infection. Your physician may consider checking how many red blood cells are actually seen in a urine specimen. This needs to be followed until there is no blood in urine. If persists, or is >3 red blood cells in each microscopic field, you may need more testing.

Incomplete info: All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the position to do that. It would be helpful to look at the actual lab results. Blood in urine is something to be concerned about and you should consult your doctor.

My wife has a pain in the left part of her middle back. She is type 2.Her dr. Tested for blood in urine negative. What could it be?

Anything: Could be a problem with skin, nerves, muscle, shoulder, lung, heart, or stomach. See your doctor for a more thorough history, physical exam and further evaluation. If she sleeps on her stomach she could have a neck strain that radiates pain to the chest or arm.

Urine Culture (Definition)

Tiny sample of urine is spread on a bacterial growth culture medium, e.G agar & placed in an incubator to grow. Positive urine cultures demonstrate colonies of bacteria which can then be identified. Such colonies can then be recultured in presence of various antibiotics to identify to which the isolated organism is sensitive. ...Read more
