Does blood in stool cause weight loss in 5 year old boy?

Does blood in stool cause weight loss in 5 year old boy?

Need evaluation: Blood in stool should be evaluated, unless it is scant and follows after a large, constipated stool, which is likely to give a small tear or fissure. Short term weight loss in a 5 year old can occur with acute illness like the flu, but if accompanied by blood in the stool, it implies some type of colitis, and this should be evaluated. ...Read more

My 9 yr old has slightly elevated leukocytes in urine and blood, with small micro blood in urine also. various symptoms for years, should I worry?

Urinary findings: A few red and white blood cells in a prepubertal girl's urine usually is indicative of poor hygiene and poor wiping technique leading to peri-urethral irritation and thus the findings in the urine. So no, I wouldn't worry about those findings. However, you mention various symptoms for years - these may be worth worrying about if they are affecting her lifestyle and thus would need investigation. ...Read more

5 yr old girl. Urinary frequency. No confirmed culture. Blood work up done/ normal. What could be the cause?

Several issues: A 5yo without fever is less likely to have a uti, but may have irritation or stress induced frequency.Shampooing her hair or otherwise sitting in soapy water can leave a soap film on her genitals that leads to irritation. Some kids can go thru periods of frequent urination after observing a stressful event. A scary news video or perceived dangerous event can set this off for a month or so. ...Read more

88 yr old mother used to be hypersensitive when having blood drawn or BP taken. Not now that she's become incontinent (both urinary & fecal). Normal?

88 yr old mother used to be hypersensitive when having blood drawn or BP taken. Not now that she's become incontinent (both urinary & fecal). Normal?

More going on?: Sounds like mom is going through a lot of changes which may be scary for you. If she is incontinent maybe she also has become forgetful (dementia) or has other neurologic or medical problems. Ignoring needles sounds like a sign of a more general problem. I dont want to guess but hydrocephalus is a treatable cause of dementia and incontinence. What does the doctor say? ...Read more

Dehydration?: A high fever causes rapid radiation of fluid. The UA results suggest it was not a clean catch. Your child needs to be evaluated for dehydration. How long has he not peed? Are his mucous membranes moist? Eyes sunken? Doughy, tenting skin? Push sugary fluids until he can be seen ...Read more
