What can blood in stool mean after colon resection?

What can blood in stool mean after colon resection?

Bleeding: It depends. If it is bright red blood it could be an area of irritation at surgery site or anastomosis, an ulcer, a blood vessel or other complication of surgery. Other conditions unrelated to surgery such as hemorrhoids and diverticulosis can result in bleeding. You need to talk with your doctor to clarify what you are noting. ...Read more

What to do if I have blood in stool after taking a colon cleanser?

What to do if I have blood in stool after taking a colon cleanser?

Nothing for now: Blood in the stool is never "normal". However, colon cleansing can aggrevate hemorrhoids (swollen anal veins) and cause bleeding. Warm baths with epsom salts and a cream like anusol will help. However, if the bleeding persists, there may be a colon polyp or tumor that is bleeding. If so, please see a doctor for an exam. All the best, peter wilk, md. ...Read more

Have had blood in stool off and on for almost a year.Just had colon checked,he found nothing. What are the possibilities?

Blood in Stool: i assume you had a colonoscopy, which was negative. If it was a complete examination, you are unlikely to have cancer, but conditions such as diverticulosis, angiodysplasia, or even a collapsed hemorrhoid, can be hard to detect. If it was bright red blood, it is likely colonic in origin. Black stools usually indicate a small intestinal or stomach origin. If you are still symptomatic, follow up. ...Read more

28 yrs old, male. Do narrow stools always indicate colon cancer or are there other reasons? No blood in stool. Bloating and gas.

No – but what's up?: And narrowed caliber of stool can be commonly associated with colon carcinoma in any age group. It relates to the relative constriction of the rectum prior to evacuation. Other conditions include rectal stenosis, a sizable rectal polyp, or other conditions serving to narrow and constricted the normal sized stool. Best let a gastroenterologist evaluate you by colonoscopy and anoscopy. ...Read more

Narrowing of stool suggests that there is some constriction of bowel causing a narrowing of the lumen and thus the stool. Blood does not have to be present but relying on a gp rectal not satisfactory. Sigmoidoscopy at a minimum and colonoscopy more accepted for this problem. ...Read more
