If I had a blood clot in my lung after peritoneal cancer surgery, does it mean that something went wrong during my surgery?

If I had a blood clot in my lung after peritoneal cancer surgery, does it mean that something went wrong during my surgery?

No, probably not: You do however, at least, 2 significant risk factors to have blood clot- i.e.- cancer and surgery. Patient with cancer who undergoes major surgery like yours- have a really high risk for development of blood clot- that can go up as high as 40%. Other risk factors also include age, ascites, surgery for > 2 hours, low Albumin level, smoker, cancer burden/presence of metastatic disease etc. ...Read more

Can you tell me about non treated cancer/ nhl/ brain/ lung and blood clot risk?

CA & blood clots: Patients with CA are at increased risk of blood clots, even before treatment. Clots can be the first sign of CA. If a pt is having problems with clots, treatment can often eliminate the risk of clots. The most common to cause clots are lung, ovary, brain, pancreas, lymphoma, and kidney. Ex has stomach cancer & told me dr found lg blood clot in lung BUT sent home & 2 increase blood thinner??! Seriously?? Wouldn't that kill him?

Anticoag may be good: If Ex has stomach cancer has it been resected or still present. Many tumors have hypercoagulable state and wind up with venous clts that can embolize to lung. A lung scan would show extend to problem and O3 levels would be valuable. Suspect clot not enough to impare breathing so that anticoags would be effective if he is followed closely. Also important is status of the Ca and therapy used. ...Read more

Stage 4 lung cancer no chemo tumor grew & cancer spread, clinical trial only now, on oxygen for sob, blood clots in legs, what is life expectancy?

Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival. If treatment is done , it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy. There are certainly trials out there and i would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try. ...Read more
