If there is calf pain, tenderness and swelling, have an evaluation by a physician and, if advisable, a leg ultrasound will be ordered. Compression bruise: Makes sense this was a direct result of leaning hard against the ladder. If you experience any numbness associated with the bruising, I would check this out with your local doctor, if things do not totally resolve with some time( 5-7 days), make a point to have things examined by a doctor, and consider some imaging to understand how deep the injury to soft tissue is. ...Read more

Non occlusive blood clot left leg. Got in shower, slipped on shower mat, hit left shin against shower rail. Bruise and and slight bump. Dislodge possib?

Possible: Clots below the knee only usually do not cause symptoms or significant problem even if they dislodge as they are too small to cause . Some experts do not even recommend blood thinners for this kind of clots as they often dissolve on their own. You should continue full activity as normal as this hastens improvement. If you have a lot of symptoms then short course of blood thinner is seasonable.. ...Read more

Unlikely: Risk factors that increase the chance of blood clot include sitting for long periods of time (low blood flow), smoking, having personal or family history of clots, birth control or pregnancy, inflammatory diseases (eg Crohns or rheumatoid arthritis). The only way to know for sure is by ultrasound. If the pain on the left worsens or swelling begins to occur, then reasonable to see a physician. ...Read more

Exam: You are describing a superficial varicosity ( vein near the surface) which has been injured or bled. This usually resolves spontaneously over the next 7-10 days. Fell a week ago and injured front of leg, had xray saw doctor. Still very swollen and hard, noticed more bruising. Blood clot?

Probably not: The bruising that you see is from blood accumulating in the soft tissues. It may get hard as it organizes, it may turn purple yellow or blue and "spread" to the adjacent areas. If you are developing swelling and pain in the back of the calf which was not present previously this could represent a clot in the vein and should be investigated with an ultrasound exam. ...Read more
