Veins in hands with hard lumps... Could they be blood clots?

Veins in hands with hard lumps... Could they be blood clots?

Not really: They are superficial veins and when we use the term blood clot in the media we are talking about obstructed deep veins: " deep vein thrombosis" or DVT. Technically the hard spots on the hand veins are also thrombosis of veins but they superficial veins and are called superficial phlebitis not" blood clots.". ...Read more

I have a couple tiny lumps in the veins on the back of my hand. They don't hurt. What could they be? Blood clots?

Unlikely: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you but blood clots are unlikely. You may watch and wait, if the lump doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other lumps become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

There is a tiny knot on top of my hand that seems to be in my vein. I especially see and feel it when I ball up my fist. Could it be a blood clot?

Yes: Phlebitis in that area is a possibility. Probable due to trauma as long as there is no redness or extension there is no reason for concern. Take Motrin and put a heating pad when idle and should resolve in a few days. ...Read more

I've superfic. Thromboph. In my hand following an IV. Hard vein, sensitivity. Can blood clots break loose and travel to lungs=death? When shall I worry

I've superfic. Thromboph. In my hand following an IV. Hard vein, sensitivity. Can blood clots break loose and travel to lungs=death? When shall I worry

Treat the thromboph: Anytime the veins are inflamed, there is a potential for thrombosis and thrombi can break off and travel to the right side of the heart and from there to the lung. However, the balancing system of thrombolysis can dissolve the thrombus and anticoagulant drugs can prevent it from forming in the first place. Not every thromboembolus leads to death, especially if you have healthy lungs. ...Read more

Is this blood clots? I slept on my arm, & noticed swelling, red spots & numbness when I woke. I couldn't move my hand & saw a bulge in my wrist vein.

DVT upper extremity: It could be a blood clot in the superficial or deep veins or both superficial and deep veins and the only way to know is to get a noninvasive scan called a Duplex venous ultrasound. I suggest that you get one as soon as possible. ...Read more

Upper Arm DVT?: This can be a sign of an upper arm deep venous thrombosis (dvt). These are somewhat unusual in a young lady, so certainly I agree with the possibility of a thoracic outlet syndorme (tos), particularly a sub-entity of it called "effort thrombosis" or "paget-schroetter syndrome." this is often associated with swelling of the arm, bulging veins, and a feeling of arm heaviness. ...Read more

I have a blue protruding vein (1cm bump) near my wrist for over a year now. Does this mean I now have a history of forming blood clots, so I should not take meds such as birth control?

I have a blue protruding vein (1cm bump) near my wrist for over a year now. Does this mean I now have a history of forming blood clots, so I should not take meds such as birth control?

No: I'm sorry anyone told you something so foolish. Occasionally peripheral veins dilate and this seems to be genetic. In the arm, they're basically never the result of an unknown deep blood clot. The illness leading to post deep vein thrombus in legs or (rarely, Mr. Stallone) arms is not subtle. I'm glad you're health-conscious but there's no concern here. ...Read more

My wrist/thumb cracks, hurts, gets warm, stiff and sometimes I get tiny red dots over a vein leading to my thumb. Could this be a blood clot? Tendonitis?

Get evaluated: At 16 this sounds a bit like more than tendonitis, and suggestive of a rdheumatoid pdroblem. You need an evaluation by ortho or rheumatology to detrermine what is occurdring. Sometimes it is overuse, but the symptoms are similar to several different diagnoses. ...Read more

I got a blood clot on my hand while waxing waxing and my whole hand hurts, should I be concerned?

I got a blood clot on my hand while waxing waxing and my whole hand hurts, should I be concerned?
