It depends : If blood in the stoll is red, it may be from a hemorrhoid. This needs to be evaluated and treated, but is fairly common. If the blood or stool is darker (black) and has a 'tar-like' appearance, it is more indicative of a bleed in the upper areas of the GI tract. I pass blood with bowel movement constant bowel pains.My gp says it may be ibs.The spasmongal tablets i have, don't seem to work. Anything else to try?
Blood is bad: Bright red blood in stool or black tarry colored stool referred to as melena are both reasons for concern. Ibs, a diagnosis of exclusion, by itself will not usually cause blood in stool, you will likely need to get a colonoscopy if you haven't already to find the cause of your bleeding. See GI: Your symtpoms certainly sound chronic with issues since 16yo. Bleeding with bm is never normal, so it is recommended for you to see a GI dr. Can internal hemmorhoids heal? Had bleeding but dr said there were no internal hemmorhoids.Haven't had any blood with bowel movement for 2.5 years now
Born with them: It may be that whatever caused your bleeding 2 1/2 years ago wasn't internal hemorrhoids or that you made good changes to lifestyle, diet or bowel behaviors at that time so that you no longer have hemorrhoidal bleeding. Several things.: If the blood is bright red and just a bit on the toilet paper or in the bowl when having a bm, it is due to a hemorrhoid or anal fissure (small tear). These occur with chronic constipation, contributors to constipation are niot enough water or fiber in the diet, or prolonged sitting. If the blood is dark, or heavy, go see a doctor.
