My heart rate is over 100. I take blood pressure medication. Should I be concerned? What should I do, if anything?
Yes, a concern: Normal heart rate (HR) should be in the 70s. Are you taking a beta-blocker, which will lower your heart rate? (unfortunately, beta-blockers reduce glucose tolerance with prolonged use). I suggest 1-2 teaspoons of Morton's Lite Salt (230 mg sodium, 340 mg potassium per 1/4 tsp) and 400-500 mg magnesium each day. Walking (30 minutes or so each day) will normalize your BP and HR. ...Read more

What to do if I have high blood pressure its been 20 years im on medication does it damage my heart?
Controlled?: If your medications keep your blood pressure in normal range, you will be protected from the complications of high blood pressure on your heart: hypertrophy (thickening of the muscle), or heart failure (enlargement and weakening). If your already had thickening of your heart muscle, this is potentially reversible with excellent blood pressure control. ...Read more
I have high blood pressure and on medication for 3 day now I feel my heart buzzing need help. Your advice would be a great help to me.
It is quite`: common for patients who are informed that their Blood Pressure is abnormal and requires medical treatment to become "heart conscious"...its just a bit of anxiety...and 3 days is too early to decide about the suitability of the medication your Health Provider prescribed! I assume you have a follow-up visit soon?? If not...schedule one..to be sure the medicine is working and its suitable for you! ...Read more

At what systolic blood pressure do you recommend a person 73 years old who does not show any thickening of the heart walll to go on medication?
Depends: In general terms, people with a systolic blood pressure consistently above 140mmhg and/or a diastolic pressure over 85mmhg need treatment to lower their blood pressure. Even if the patient shows no signs of atherosclerosis, I am sure there is some present. I just would go slow on lowering the pressure so the patient does not have se of the medication. Don't forget a dash diet and exercise! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Check vital signs: If there is any suspicion for this, it needs to be confirmed with a check of your vital signs first. Are you blood pressure and pulse rate normal? My husband is 58 and has had untreated high blood pressure for 20 years. He won't take medication. He's heavy. Is he at risk for heart disease?
YES: High BP is a silent killer. It causes few symptoms until it's already damaged the heart, brain or kidneys. Usually by then damage is irreversible. Some media reports might confuse people because there's been recent debate about whether treatment is needed for mild hypertension. But it's pretty clear to everyone that anything over 150/90 or so is dangerous, especially over another 20-30 years. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Many factors can increase pulse rate. Talk with your medical professional about your concern. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
