If one has had strep, and still has blisters and a scratchy throat, after 3 weeks, but no fever are they at risk for rheumatic fever?

Unrelated symptom: You don't say where the blisters are but I agree they are not a feature of strep. The nastiest raw throats I see are usually viral and or mono. That said, the persistent throat issue is not a signal for rheumatic fever. That process occurs when your immune system kicks into high gear after untreated strep. If you did proper rx within 7-10 days of 1st symptoms, it stops the rheumatic conversion. ...Read more

It happens: Did they verify the strep with a test? Was the shot a penicillin based drug? As long as the kid stays well hydrated and is feeding okay, you can monitor through the weekend. Call the office on Monday if things are not improving. ...Read more

Have what looks like a blister with a white center where one tonsil used to be. Sore throat and nephew had strep about a week ago, could I have strep?

It's possible: Generally with "classic" strep throat the tonsils are red, have pus on them, but it sounds like you had your tonsils removed? You could still get a strep infection, just not strep tonsillitis. The only way to really know is to get a simple strep test - takes about 5 min to do. See your MD or go to an urgent care (NOT the ER!) There's no home remedy for strep, so if it's positive you need meds! ...Read more

BLISTERS: What do you mean "flu came back negative"? there is no such test. What did your doctor do then? Were you started on any treatment? You need a physical exam by a real doctor and chest x-ray and possibly HSV and HPV test. It may also be an allergic reaction to something you are constantly being exposed to. I have red bumps or blisters in the back of my throat, along with runny nose a cough but no fever. Could this be mono? Strep? Or cold? Help?

Virus infection: That red 'rash' is called an enanthem and it could be from a virus such as adenovirus, enterovirus, or coxsackie - something like that. If this was mono or Strep, those should cause a fever and you would probably be worse. Best to get it checked with a throat exam and diagnostic tests. In the meantime, hot ginger tea or hot lemonade (lemon juice, hot water and honey) may help those symptoms. ...Read more

Specific infection: A strep throat is a bacterial infection of the throat (pharynx), tonsils or both caused by the bacteria group a streptococcus.
