If one has had strep, and still has blisters and a scratchy throat, after 3 weeks, but no fever are they at risk for rheumatic fever?
Unrelated symptom: You don't say where the blisters are but I agree they are not a feature of strep. The nastiest raw throats I see are usually viral and or mono.That said, the persistent throat issue is not a signal for rheumatic fever. That process occurs when your immune system kicks into high gear after untreated strep. It's possible you have a simple viral infection (like a cold), you should be checked for streptococcal pharyngitis (strep throat) and infectious mononucleosis (mono). Motrin or Tylenol (acetaminophen): Sounds like it may be herpangina. Most often caused by the hand, foot and mouth virus. Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin can be used for pain. In severe cases with multiple sores dehydration can become a problem. Avoid acidic foods and juices for a few days as this may be irritating to the open sores at the back of the throat.
