Blinking Eyes (Overview)

Blinking is the normal mechanism for keeping the ocular surface clear and vision sharp. The tear film is THE most critical layer responsible for clear vision. Best analogy is that of a car windshield. If your driving through a dusty or dry area the view becomes cloudier and cloudier without using the windshield washer function periodically. It's the same with the surface of the eye w/o blinking

Why men look at beautiful women with blinking eyes. What does the blinking mean?

Eye blinking: There is no physiological reason and this behavior has nothing to do with eyes. There may be psychosocial reasons for eye blinking in courtship that suggest interest or availability of a potential partner but I don't know if this has been studied. ...Read more

Eyes : what is the use of blinking eyes, is good for eyes to get rid of strain?

Lubrication: Blinking serves at least two functions: removing debris from the eye surface, and lubricating the eye. Eyelids act as "reverse windshield wipers" — they push tears onto the eye's surface in order to keep it moist and nourished. Blinking can clear up vision temporarily in those whose eyes have become dry (from excess staring at the computer, for example), but does not relieve strain. ...Read more

Blinking eyes due to blast of air?

Blinking eyes due to blast of air?

Eyes getting dry: A blast of air, be it from a fan or wind, causes your tears to evaporate quickly. To compensate, you blink more since blinking releases tears. The solution is to wear sunglasses when outdoors and avoid having a fan blowing on your face indoors. And you can use artificial tears 4 times a day if it becomes a constant problem. ...Read more

What could cause a kid blinking eyes?

What could cause a kid blinking eyes?

Habit: Blinking if of course normal and necessary. But a few children will blink excessively and repeatedly in a way that looks disturbing. In almost all cases this is a kind of tic or repeated habit with no underlying pathology. The usual way to get it to stop is simply ignore it, not call attention to it in any way, and most children will revert to normal after time. ...Read more

Blinking eyes is this stress?

Blinking eyes is this stress?

Possibly stress: I answered a question recently re kids and blinking eyes. Same info holds true for adults. People get into habits (nail-biting, nose-picking, blinking, other tics) as stress-relievers.
If the eye exam is normal, most often stress or exhaustion or habit is the cause. Rarely there can be central causes (blepharospam, etc) that require neurological evaluation, possibly imaging, sometimes botox. ...Read more

Blinking eyes. Some says it's mannerism.?

Many causes: Excessive blinking has many possible causes. Dry eyes, stress, habitual causes are possible. If the blinking is severe enough to interfere with activities, need to consider more significant problems like blepharospasm if both eyes affected, or hemifacial spasm if just one side of the face is affected. See an eye md to rule out simple causes, and see if further testing is required. ...Read more

Why men look at beautiful women with blinking eyes means from eye core?

Why men look at beautiful women with blinking eyes means from eye core?

Superstition: There is nothing magic in eyesight. The beauty of the human form is to be enjoyed. Try to look deeper for better-quality long-term relationships, and if you've got the good fortune to be a "beautiful person" yourself, be sure you don't lose too much time on superficial pleasures instead of developing real relationships and career. ...Read more

9 year old child been blinking eyes a lot and had a large soft mushy bowel movement in her sleep didn't wake up?

Correlation unlikely: Excessive blinking can be forceful, a tic like condition or non forceful due to weakness of the eye muscle resp. For elevating the upper eyelid. Loss of bowel control may not be related to the eye symptoms but both conditions require a very careful evaluation to rule out other underlying causes. I will recommend an evaluation by your PCP who will determine if a neuro consult is necessary ...Read more

If 88 yr man had cpr (later responded to questions by blinking eyes) had a positive CT scan, but EEG activity of 5%. Chances of braindamage? Waking up?

Family meeting...: In the instances where there's an elderly person who was sick enough to need CPR and the family has questions about prognosis, it's best to have a sit down family meeting with the primary doctor/icu doctor and neurologist to discuss goals of care. On average about 15-18% of people >65 who have CPR survive to hospital discharge. This is serious enough to warrant a family meeting. ...Read more
