Blind Spot In Vision (Overview)

Most people are not aware of their blind spot, the small spot in everybody's visual field that is blank. The attachment point of the optic nerve (the nerve that carries all visual information to the brain) to the eyeball causes every person to have a blind spot.

Blind spot in vision; also like a sparkly prism?

Migraine: You have described a typical pattern for occipital migraine, a condition affecting the circulation to the occipital lobe - the visual information processing part of the brain. These are benign, annoying but come from nothing and lead to nothing. Most are over in 5 minutes to 1 hour. If you get another, cover one eye, then the other and you will notice the sparkles in the same 1/2 of each eye. ...Read more

Why do I get a blind spot in vision before a migraine?

Why do I get a blind spot in vision before a migraine?

Aura: Many people with classical migraines have stereotyped symptoms that precede the headache, referred to as an aura. If you do have an aura, use this as your trigger to immediately take an abortive medication (nsaids or a triptan), as early aboritve treatment is much more effective than waiting until the headache proper appears. ...Read more

I think I have a blind spot in vision; it's either worse in right eye or only in right eye, but it's hard to even tell ?

See ophtho: I would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist, both for a dilated examination of your retina and for formal visual field testing. This would characterize your blind spot and start the search for a cause. ...Read more

Blind spot appeared in vision along with major stress?

BLIND SPOT: We all have a normal blind spot, the optic nerve head. There are other pathological blind spots occurring in diseased conditions such as glaucoma, solitary retinal hemorrhages, artery or vein occlusions etc. Stress alone is unlikely to cause such blind spots, but theoretically it could contribute to worsen a preexisting condition like hypertension, which may lead to retinal hemorrhages. ...Read more

Lithium toxic at 1.66.effects were extreme dizziness.blind spot right eye.vision looked cloudy.felt floating.saw bugs on wall.delirum or hallucination?

See doctor ASAP!: I hope you are sharing with us the aftermath of taking too much lithium and have been seen by your PCP. Your description of visual hallucinations and not in your body means you still need to be under emergent medical supervision. So you don't injure yourself or others. You should not be driving or doing anything requiring using machinery, and have 24 hour care in a hospital ER, under observation. ...Read more

Blind spot in center of vision and then patches of prisms? Aura?

??: Need a little more info about your question. I assume you're saying you have a blind spot centrally and your seeing scintillating light peripherally--typically lasting about 15 minutes, not usually associated with any other symptoms. Sounds like an acephalic migraine or ocular migrains, without headache, sometimes described as auras. Central blindspot is concerning though. See your eyemd. ...Read more

What could have caused a sudden blind spot in my left eye that impaired about 40% of my vision?

What could have caused a sudden blind spot in my left eye that impaired about 40% of my vision?

Need eye exam ASAP: There are many possible causes. If the blind spot was temporary and the visual loss completely resolved, this could be a visual migraine (which usually affects both eyes) or even a transiet ischemic attack (TIA) - which is much more serious and should be evaluated immediately. If the loss remains, retinal problems such as a vein occlusion, retinal detachment, or an optic nerve problem are possible. ...Read more

What is a blind spot? Why do we have one?

What is a blind spot? Why do we have one?

BS: The physiologic blind spot is the area about 12 degrees temporal to center of vision. It corresponds to the location of the optic nerve head. There is no light sensitive tissue on the ONH. You can find your blind spot by closing one eye, looking at your thumb at arm's length, and slowly moving your arm away from your body while staring straight ahead. Your thumb will disappear. ...Read more

How can one start seeing in the blind spot?

Can't: The physiologic blind spot is located in visual space where the optic nerve comes into the eye. There are no rods and cones in that location so no vision is possible there. The othere eye picks up the area that is missing so with both eyes we don't have a bind spot. ...Read more

Vision (Definition)
