Low Folate Level (Definition)

Folic acid deficiency can cause severe birth defects of the brain and spinal cord known as neural tube defects. In some cases, there may be no noticeable signs of folic acid deficiency, and it is diagnosed in pregnant women only after a child is born with a neural tube defect. Usually, though, your health care provider can detect the defect with blood work and ultrasound during your prenatal checkups. When women take the recommended amount of folic acid before they conceive and through the first trimester of pregnancy, 50% to 70% of neural tube defects are prevented. Do you think that an hCG level on apr 14 of 958 and then one on apr 23 of 14885 indicates a blighted ovum. The ges sac is present at 5weeks 5days.

Do you think that an hCG level on apr 14 of 958 and then one on apr 23 of 14885 indicates a blighted ovum. The ges sac is present at 5weeks 5days.

US is more accurate: There is a wide range of "normal" beta-hcg levels. It is difficult to draw meaningful conclusions based on the 2 numbers you provided. If dates are correct, a transvaginal ultrasound should show a yolk sac and fetal pole by 5 weeks 5 days. It could be the dates are off a bit in which case it may just be too early. A follow-up ultrasound can determine if this is a viable pregnancy. ...Read more

Too early : Your levels are rising normally so at this time everything looks ok. A blighted ovum can not be diagnosed at this time as it is too early. Everything is rising at normal levels so there is no reason to suspect it at this time ...Read more

Blighted Ovum: Your doctor is correct. At that beta hcg level we would expect to see a definite fetus, heart beat etc. It sounds like a blighted ovum. You should discussed methods to empty the uterus. The good news is you got pregnant and most certainly will in the future. Not all eggs that are fertilized even develop a human fetus, some develop just a sac and early placenta. ...Read more

Possible: But also possible normal pregnancy if your ovulation was later than the 14th day. It is too early to say for certain and too early to jump to conclusions. Check US again in a week, and follow whatever instruction your doctor gives you. good luck. ...Read more

This : This is a very difficult and anxiety provoking situation. Honestly nothing but time will give you answers regarding the progression of your pregnancy. The good news is 2/3 people felt confident in the progression; this means the odds are on your side. My advice for you is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If it does not work out this time, you will try again and have success in the future. Best of luck to you. ...Read more
