Blighted ovum: Unfortunately what you are describing is consistent with a blighted ovum. This is where an embryo implants into the uterine lining but the embryo or baby part doesn't grow where as the placenta part does. The gestational sac grows continuously without the baby. This event can continue growing for weeks. At times the patient will elect to undergo a dilation and curettage ending this abnormal pregnancy. If one elect to allow nature to take it's course then this will occur over weeks to possibly a month or so. ...Read more

Blighted ovum or potential ectopic? My HCG levels doubled, then dropped twice before rising again. OBGYN is recommending methotrexate.
Good idea: After multiple lab examinations, if there is still nothing seen in the uterus and a rising HCG, you most certainly have an abnormal pregnancy that should be actively managed. A dilation and curettage would help to figure out if the abnormal pregnancy was in the uterus. If it was confirmed that it was not in the uterus, then methotrexate would be a good idea along with continued lab follow up. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Do you think that an hCG level on apr 14 of 958 and then one on apr 23 of 14885 indicates a blighted ovum. The ges sac is present at 5weeks 5days.
US is more accurate: There is a wide range of "normal" beta-hcg levels. It is difficult to draw meaningful conclusions based on the 2 numbers you provided. If dates are correct, a transvaginal ultrasound should show a yolk sac and fetal pole by 5 weeks 5 days. It could be the dates are off a bit in which case it may just be too early. A follow-up ultrasound can determine if this is a viable pregnancy. ...Read more
My Hcg levels have more than doubled, 9/11 hcg was 17 9/15 HCG was 120 and 9/17 HCG was 287.. progesterone 9/11 was 29. Could this be a blighted ovum?
Will my hCG levels continue to double with a blighted ovum? Mine are more than doubling ges sac measuring 5w5d however i'm 5w2d. Hcg 4967 no yolk sac
Generally not: If your HCG is doubling and the sac is approx. Consistent with your dates, chances are that you do not have a blighted ovum - could be a normal pregnancy. Keep checking sonos and hcg's - may need intervention if signs of fetal activity / growth are not evident. Good luck. ...Read more
