Why does it take so long for a wound to stop bleeding when I get cut/scratched? Is this serious?

Why does it take so long for a wound to stop bleeding when I get cut/scratched? Is this serious?

Bleeding time: I would be more concerned if you developed bruising easily from minor trauma, had bruises develop with no history of trauma or had ongoing bleeding when you flossed and brushed your teeth. Unless you are using a stopwatch to time how long it takes to clot, it is hard to identify how long it takes to stop bleeding. It also has to do with where the injury occurs, how deep the injury is, etc. ...Read more

How can you take care of an open wound that isn't bleeding anymore?

How can you take care of an open wound that isn't bleeding anymore?

Superfast healing: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation (red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day and protected from trauma. Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected. ...Read more
