In the past we used to worry about tongue cancer in older male drinkers/smokers, there is a hpv-related type that also affects otherwise young healthy people. Good luck. ...Read more

Giant cell arteritis / vasculitis / artery inflammation - could this cause gum bleeding, mouth sores and lesions on tongue as well as lesions on skin?

Giant cell arteritis / vasculitis / artery inflammation - could this cause gum bleeding, mouth sores and lesions on tongue as well as lesions on skin?

It depends.....: Without knowing your dental status (your periodontal [gum & bone] health, any untreated dental conditions), it would be very difficult to relate these symptoms to your arteritis/vasculitis condition. Gum bleeding is the first symptom of gum disease (gingivitis/periodontitis), mouth and tongue sores/lesions can be due to a multitude of causes. See your dentist and your medical care provider. ...Read more

Bit tongue: Most likely you bit your tongue while you slept. If it continues see a dentist. You may have a broken tooth that is rough and rubbing on the tongue. Another cause could be a piercing that got caught between your teeth. If there is no dental reason than see your primary care dr. To rule out any systemic causes or allergic reactions. ...Read more

Remove the piercing: The bleeding was caused by too much use prior to the piercing becoming fully healed. Remove the piercing and allow the hole to close if the bleeding continues or if she is willing to lose the piercing. If she would like to keep the piercing, apply pressure, swish and spit with salt water and try not to use the tounge. Drink fluids and do not eat rough foods. ...Read more

If I bite my tongue a lot and make it bleed could this cause swollen cervical and jaw lymph nodes that stay swollen since I keep doing this?

If I bite my tongue a lot and make it bleed could this cause swollen cervical and jaw lymph nodes that stay swollen since I keep doing this?

Maybe: If you bite your tongue frequently, you are providing entry points for bacteria from your mouth, teeth and gums. If you have gingivitis or periodontitis or other oral infections, you can infect your tongue. This could be the cause of swollen lymph nodes. See your dentist for a comprehensive dental evaluation and your family doctor for evaluation of the cervical lymphadnopathy. ...Read more

I bit my tongue really hard on accident and now it won't stop bleeding and I don't know what to do?

I bit my tongue really hard on accident and now it won't stop bleeding and I don't know what to do?

First, pressure.: Use some gauze to get some traction and really apply continuous pressure to the wound with your fingers. Try to hold as long as you can, 20-30 min, with a minimum of checking. The tongue is rich in blood vessels and can bleed quite a bit. It should stop with pressure. Repair of tongue lacerations is controversial, and limited to very large, deep cuts. If it does not stop, then seek evaluation. ...Read more
