R/O OTITIS V TRAUMA: Q tips can often cause more harm and trauma to the ears either by scraping the canal or blocking the cerumen. She needs a through exam to differentiate and potentially antibiotic therapy. She should be seen ASAP, especially if fever develops ...Read more

Doctor: Given the bleeding, you really need to have a medical professional look into the ear with the appropriate equipment. You could have a perforated ear drum, which can create the sensations you're describing. It's actually best not to put anything in your ear, as it's very easy to tear your eardrum on accident! ...Read more

What do you do if you were cleaning a babies ear and it started bleeding?

What do you do if you were cleaning a babies ear and it started bleeding?

Using a Q-tip to : Clean the external ear canal pushes wax toward the eardrum. A scratch in the canal will heal; a ruptured ear drum would've been very painful. If her doctor okays it, use 2% hydrogen peroxide mixed 50-50 with sterile water in a sterile botle & dropper. Lay baby on her side, gently pull back the ear, instill 3-4 drops & allow 4-5 minutes in that position for it to " bubble" out the wax, not q-tips. ...Read more

See ENT: He needs to see an ear nose and throat doctor, or otolaryngologist. It's easy to scrape the ear canal, or even hurt the eardrum. He should be checked out. In the future, would advise having only an ENT doctor clean out ears. ...Read more

I need help or advice on what to do I have bleeding in my ear.Accidently poked myself while cleaning?

I need help or advice on what to do I have bleeding in my ear.Accidently poked myself while cleaning?

Pressure.: Pressure for 10 minutes (watch a clock) will stop any bleeding unless you have a blood clotting disorder. If it's too far inside the ear canal to reach, put a piece of cotton in there and see your doctor. There is a lesson to be learned here, of course -- never put anything smaller than your elbow inside your ear! you're just pushing the dirt further back, and risking exactly what happened. ...Read more

20 minutes ago i was cleaning my ear with a qtip and i went too far and it started to bleed i can hear fine and it stopped bleeding

You : You probably scratched the side of your ear canal. If it stopped bleeding and your hearing is fine, you don't need to worry. It is recommended that q-tips not be used to clean the ear canal. Use it to clean the outer ear but not inside. Becareful. ...Read more

Never use Q-tips: As you probably know, Q-tips are not supposed to be used in the ear canal for the very reason you noted. You can accidentally cause a canal abrasion which bleeds. Now, you should go to an otolaryngologist to carefully examine and clean the ear. There are many OTC remedies to dissolve ear wax safely rather than using Q-tips. Please look into that area in the future. ...Read more

What should be done when a ENT cleans out someone's ears and they start bleeding?

What should be done when a ENT cleans out someone's ears and they start bleeding?

Not uncommon: A small amount of bleeding might be no big deal since the ear canal is lined by thin, extremely sensitive skin. I would certainly let the doctor who did the cleaning know immediately and probably go back and allow them to take a second look to make sure there is no problem. ...Read more
