What do dentists do during a root canal treatment?

What do dentists do during a root canal treatment?

Remove the nerve: Root canal treatment is performed when the nerve tissue (pulp) of the tooth becomes infected or exposed. The infected or exposed nerve tissue in the inside of the tooth is removed with small files that go down in the canals of the root (s). The now empty space is filled with material to seal the end of the root from the inside of the tooth.

My dentist said that during my root canal treatment, I had a lot of little treasures. What does this mean?

My dentist said that during my root canal treatment, I had a lot of little treasures. What does this mean?

Pulp Stones: I would bet the doctor was talking about pulp stones. They are very common and are found in the nerve spaces of a tooth. Just another way the body tries to protect an injured area. Although many nerves have pulp stones without any damage to a tooth. Once again, not to worry. The sometimes make it a little challanging when doing a root canal would be the worst.

Why a patient with hypothyroidism undergoing root canal treatment, faints during the treatment?

Pain: Regardless of thyroid function (hypo, hyper or euthyroidism), pain for any reason can cause someone to faint, most likely due to a vasovagal response whereby the heart beats too slowly while the blood pressure drops.

What happens during root canal therapy?

What happens during root canal therapy?

Removes tooth nerve: The goal of root canal therapy is to clean out the infected nerve and blood vessels inside the tooth. Removing that tissue will control the infection. Dentists use very fine instruments to clean out the tissue, and then place a material inside the tooth to provide strength and prevent other bacteria from getting inside.

What should I do if there was a breakage in the cleaning needle during root canal therapy procedure?

What should I do if there was a breakage in the cleaning needle during root canal therapy procedure?

Listen: It is not what should you do, it's what your dentist has told you to do & especially if you are not having any symptoms. He has explained it to you. Call him if you do not understand what he has explained to you. If a dentist does enough root canal treatment he will experience file separation (cleaning needle breakage). This happens.

Can root canal treatment be painful?

Can root canal treatment be painful?

Not Usually: Root canal treatment has a bad rep that it usually does not deserve. The pain is caused by an infection in the nerve space of the tooth. Root canal solves this problem and eliminates the pain. However, if you wait to long and have a large infection under the tooth it may be difficult to make the tooth adequately numb. Root canal done in a timely manner are not painful.

Can there be an alternative to root canal treatment?

Can there be an alternative to root canal treatment?

Extraction!: If a tooth requires a root canal it most likely that decay or damage has involved the tooth's pulp. Root canal will allow a tooth's hard tissue to be saved and restored, but one can always opt to have the effected tooth extracted to avoid future pain, suffering and potential bodily harm.

What are holistic root canal treatment and conventional?

What are holistic root canal treatment and conventional?

Nothing: The principals of root canal therapy are to clean and disinfect the canals and then fill the canal to seal them. Their are many techniques to accomplish both! After doing more than 20, 000 cases, I can tell you the term holistic means nothing. Some root sealing materials are thought to be safer, hence the term holistic. These materials are not around the bloodstream so I'm my opinion, not better!

What else can be done if a root canal treatment is ineffective?

Root canal: Sometimes a retrograde filling or apicoectomy can be done to save the tooth. It is when the end of the root is removed the infected bone and tissue is cleaned and a filling is placed from the tip of the root. It depends on how bad the infection is or if there is a good chance of success, ask your dentist to examine you

Can an abscess continue even after a root canal treatment?

Yes and No: If the root canal was successful the abscess should heal by its own accord as the cause of the infection has been eradicated&this can take up to a year for complete healing of the apical area. If it persist then the tooth may be fractured. If this is the case it may have been fractured before the rct. See your dentist/see a specialist for a second opinion.

Is it okay to undergo a root canal treatment even if I have an abscess?

Risk vs benefit: You have to weigh the risk complications of immediate treatment vs the risk of waiting on antibiotics to attack the infection. Sometimes it's best to at least open the tooth and medicate it, then wait for the abcess to "settle down" before completing the root canal.

For how long can an adult wait after pulpotomy before root canal treatment?

Pulpectomy 1-2 month: Pulpotomy is usually performed on baby teeth. A pulpectomy is a dental procedure in which all of the pulp in the pulp chamber and root canal of a tooth is removed, but not sealed. If the temporary filling is dissolved then you run the risk of reinfection, and the pulpectomy treatment may need to be repeated. Do not procrastinate, it will avoid future complications.

Do people ever get a proper root canal treatment without having a crown placed?

Do people ever get a proper root canal treatment without having a crown placed?

Yes but: In the vast majority of cases, it is better to safeguard the tooth against breakage and further decay by having a crown placed within in a reasonable time. More often than not, patients end up, some time in the future, being sorry that they did not head their dentist's advice regarding this issue. You have spent a lot of money and time having rct and it's best to protect that investment.
