Having my 3rd leep in 10 years for recurring hsil cervical polyps (1st leep was for mild). Should I be concerned? Should I look into a hysterectomy?

Having my 3rd leep in 10 years for recurring hsil cervical polyps (1st leep was for mild). Should I be concerned? Should I look into a hysterectomy?

Surgical Risk?: In general, hysterectomy is much more invasive and puts a patient at significantly greater risk than a leep. Further, hysterectomy should only be used when a leep is insufficient, i.e. Positive margins. I do understand the frustration/anxiety entailed by recurrent hsil though -- hysterectomy may be reasonable if your gyn can perform a lower risk procedure, like a laparoscopic or vaginal surgery. ...Read more

If a cervical polyp was dislodged during sex would it cause a lot of bleeding, or just a little spotting?

If a cervical polyp was dislodged during sex would it cause a lot of bleeding, or just a little spotting?

NMS: This is not my specialty and thus I had not bothered to answer it earlier. The answer is depending on the vascularity and the size of the polys. If less vascular, the smaller the size, the less bleeding.

Why do docs recommend removing cervical polyp while pregnant if the polyp is bleeding? Wouldn't the bleeding stop eventually or could it be endless?

Why do docs recommend removing cervical polyp while pregnant if the polyp is bleeding? Wouldn't the bleeding stop eventually or could it be endless?

Bleeding: Most of the cervical polyps are benign so normally they would leave it alone until after the pregnancy. If the polyp is rather large then they might be concerned that the bleeding might cover up other potentially important sources of bleeding related to the pregnancy. It is probably because of the size and continued bleeding that they want to take it out. ...Read more

Vaginal bleeding (not rectal) after bowel movement, why could this be? Had cervical polyp removed 3 years ago if this is relevant?

Vaginal bleeding (not rectal) after bowel movement, why could this be? Had cervical polyp removed 3 years ago if this is relevant?

Should get an exam: A cervical polyp could bleed after a bowel movement, so that's one possibility. Cervical polyps are common and they often recur. I'd recommend getting an exam and if there's no polyp visible, and no other concerns (infection, inflammation, or abnormal Pap smear) then I'd recommend a pelvic ultrasound to look deeper. ...Read more

What is cervical polyps and what are the symptoms and causes? And how is it treated? I have infrequent bleeding and I think I have cervical polyps!

Removal: Cerivcal polyps are almost always benign, but we still recommend their removal. They are easy for a gynecologist to remove, so be sure to see a doctor so the polyp can be sent to a pathologist and confirm the bleeding isn't pre-cancer or cancer. The symptoms are most commonly bleeding after intercourse, or heavy bleeding or intermittant breakthrough bleeding. We don't know why they form. ...Read more
