Have an exam: I strongly encourage you to have a routine exam from your gynecologist. It is always a good idea to follow-up on the removal of fibroids with routine exams. This type of exam can only be done properly in a clinic or office. I wish you the best with your health and I am available to discuss this and other health issues with you. ...Read more

I think I'm too young to have a hysterectomy, but I have heavy bleeding and fibroids. What is the difference between a robotic laparoscopic myomectomy and a robotic hysterectomy?

Pregnancy?: This presentation is common in women with fibroids. Future pregnancy is a consideration which may lead to a recommendation for myomectomy where the fibroids are removed leaving the uterus intact. If pregnancy is not desired, the options include medical therapy, myomectomy or for definitive treatment, hysterectomy where the uterus is removed. Robotc surgery offers shorter recovery, less blood loss. ...Read more

My lap-myomectomy was on 3 weeks back. (sumucous fibroid).I was bleed 6-7 days. Now my period came 10 days late. Is it normal? It was regular before myo.

Not unusual: If the fibroid was submucosal, then the uterine lining was disrupted during the surgery so it is not unusual to expect some bleeding associated with that, it is also not unusual that you would have normal "period bleeding" separate form the postoperative bleeding. None of this sounds worrisome. ...Read more

What is surgery for a hysterectomy for fibroid removal like?

What is surgery for a hysterectomy for fibroid removal like?

Depends: It depends on the size of the fibroid and the skill of the surgeon. Some surgeons are very skilled at minimally invasive or robotic surgeries and are comfortable even with very large fibroids. Make sure you are evaluated by someone skilled in advanced laparoscopy/robotics for an opinion if a different doc tells you that you must have an open hysterectomy. That's not always the case! ...Read more

Need explanation of fibroid removal?

Myomectomy: Uterine fibroids can be removed with a procedure called myomectomy. This is often possible with a minimally-invasive approach- laparoscopy and sometimes hysteroscopy. I'm 53 and had a D&C/hysteroscopy/polyp and fibroid removal. I started having hot flashes 10 days later & get them every 1/2 hour. Could the D & C have caused this? Maybe messed with my hormones?

I'm 53 and had a D&C/hysteroscopy/polyp and fibroid removal. I started having hot flashes 10 days later & get them every 1/2 hour. Could the D & C have caused this? Maybe messed with my hormones?

May be coincidental: The actual procedures that you had should not have changed your ovarian function, meaning that they should not have changed your hormones. However, you are in perimenopause, so lots of things can bring on more hot flashes. Stress is a big one, and you just had a big stress to your body with the procedure. Any change in sleep, diet, or meds associated with the procedure might also contribute. ...Read more

I have had two fibroid removal surgeries, which were both done as a laproscopy through the vagina. I still have fibroids. Can I have a baby?

Depends....: That's a hard question to answer in this format. It depends on where the remaining fibroids are located. The closer to the uterine lining, the worse your chances. Also depends on the size of the fibroids and the presence/absence of scar tissue. You really need an evaluation of the uterine cavity (hysteroscopy or sonohystogram or HSG). I recommend you go see a fertility specialist near you. ...Read more

Trying to conceive after fibroid removal and course of Zoladex (goserelin) implant - heavy and painful periods still, 4 months after treatment?

Normal will return: Hello,
As you know Zoladex (goserelin) suppresses the hormones that the ovary produces.
Now that the course of suppression is over, the ovaries will begin to cycle. The brain/ovary/uterus system is very complex and it could take a little time for you to cycle perfectly. Also consider that you have had pelvic surgery which represents a stress to all systems especially the reproductive system. ...Read more
