Bleeding After Cone Biopsy
After a cervical biopsy over a week ago I had sex when the bleeding stopped. It started again and has continued for 6 days. Help cramps, abdominal fever and consistant bleeding. Is this normal?
Vaginal: Vaginal bleeding after sex is often caused by the friction of the penis rubbing against the cervix, so the bleeding is not surprising following your biopsy. However, the cramping and fever are much more concerning symptoms - especially lasting for almost a week. I'm concerned that you could have an infection. You should call your ob/gyne (or the doctor who performed the biopsy) right away. They may want to examine you to determine the cause of your symptoms so that you can have the right treatment. Good luck! ...Read more
Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
Healing: A cone biopsy is a huge procedure; the specimen can be the size of my relatively small nose and it's not surprising that the blood vessels that grow into the new scar tissue are fragile and leak over the following weeks. Be thankful -- essentially every conization biopsy with a favorable pathology report afterwards represents the cure of a cancer that would otherwise have been deadly. COngrats. ...Read more

2 weeks ago today I had a cone biopsy and endometrial biopsy's. I'm still bleeding is this normal?
Depends: First there are three types of conization (laser, cold knife, and LEEP). All may be associated with some light bleeding, though it should get better with time. I usually see my conization patients two weeks post op, so you might need a follow up as well. If the endometrial biopsy was for abnormal bleeding then this could be more of that also. ...Read more

Old blood: The discharge that you are seeing is old blood. It may represent previously active bleeding from the surgical site after intercourse. Go back to the cone biopsy surgeon and get examined. You should have done that already prior to resuming intimacy so the MD will have a point of reference for the activity of the bleeding. ...Read more
