Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
My colonoscopy biopsy shows colonic mucosa with reactive lymphoid aggregates. I was having bleeding & mucous. Uc or crohn's? Or normal?
Nonspecific finding: Lymphoid aggregates are commonly found in the colon and small bowel. They are a normal finding. Excessive lymphoid aggregates could be related to infections or ibd but they are relatively a nonspecific finding, especially if the other features of ibd are not present. ...Read more
I had a diagnostic colonoscopy done due to bleeding and they found 2 ulcers in my intestines . Biopsies came back good what is the cause and treatment?
NSAID, etc.: The most common reason for ulcers in the intestines is from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (nsaids, ibuprofen, naproxen, et.). Other possibilities include crohn's disease, or many other possibilities, including infections. If this is NSAID induced, the treatment is avoidance of nsaids. If this is infection, it will resolve. But if it's crohn's, you need specific medical therapy. ...Read more

Bleeding red stools daily 1 month, gone now.. Colonscopy cleared, CT scan showed few enlarged nodes around colon. Gi said infection. Ask 4 biopsy?
No: Red blood in stool more frequent from anal problems rather than colon, as such a neg. colonoscopy and as a result no area requiring bx. If digital exam does not define an anal lesion or internal hemmorhoids then whatever the problem has resolved and again no bx required. My colonoscopy results was all clear, but Dr always get samples to biopsy for micro colitis. Is any chance that biopsy show any serious disease?
I did colonoscopy and it was clear, but a biopsy was done..Am really confused if its clear then why the biopsy needed?Should i be worried?Plz help
No, don't worry: If you were told it is clear, then don't worry! your doctor probably biopsied some polyps, which are benign growths. They can change over many years to become cancerous, which is why they are always removed. Or maybe you had some signs of inflammation and your doctor wants a closer look. Biopsies are very common during colonoscopy, and it doesn't mean you have cancer! ...Read more

Samples taken for biopsy during my colonoscopy yesterdy. Today I am having pain on n off in som random places in lower abs. Anything serious? Can I take vitamn K n multi vit for biopsy wounds to heal?
Colonoscopy: It's not unusual to have mild discomfort shortly after colonoscopy. This is not due to the biopsies, but to residual air left behind after the procedure. If you have severe pain or persistent tenderness in your abdomen, call your Gastroneurologist immediately. Vitamin K and MVI's will not help the biopsy sites heal any faster. They do not cause pain and will heal just fine on their own. Good luck. ...Read more
Colonoscopy showed no polyps but an erythematous area was found and it was biopsied.what could that mean?
IBS has no findings : Typically, inflammation anywhere is associated with erythema. While it is more diagnostic of acute or chronic inflammation in the stomach or esophagus, erythema in the colon could mean nonspecific inflammation. The biopsy will determine if this is something more serious such as Crohn's disease. IBS has no abnormalities on colonoscopy. ...Read more
Colonoscopy found inflammation and petechiae. Biopsies were taken. What are the biopsies looking for or what conditions are they attempting to diagnos?
Yes: You have probably been deceived about the benefits & risks. The purpose of a biopsy is to determine whether you have, or are on the way to getting, cancer of the cervix, which used to kill 30000 women each year in the usa alone. Talk straight with your physician -- unlike someone running a scare-you internet site, he/she has an obligation under the law to tell the truth. ...Read more
