Bladder Wall Thickening Causes
39 yo male. Pain in the lower left quadrant of abdomen for 2 years. Ct scan unremarkable except shows bladder wall thickening. Could this be cause?
The bladder is a muscular organ in the pelvis that accepts urine from the kidneys, stores the urine at low pressure, & expels the urine during voluntary voiding. Though seemingly a simple reservoir, the bladder is a complex organ intricately connected with the brain and spinal cord with sensory, motor, and autonomic circuits. The muscular layer that contracts during voids ...Read more
Bladder wall thickening. Dr. Said not serious and no cause for alarm or worry. I am a 33 yr male and can't stop worrying about it. Please help.?
You need to tell us: Why did you have to checked in the first place. In other words do you any specific reasons/symptoms that you had your bladder checked? Is this your urinary bladder or gall bladder? Once we know about the above issues and also how did they check the thickness? Was it with ultrasound or ct scan or some other test. Give us the detailed history before we can guide you further.
Bladder wall: Thickening can be caused by a wide variety of entities, including inflammatory and infectious processes, malignancies, infiltrative processes, and functional disturbances. So, diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause is necessary, not treatment of the bladder wall thickening itself.
32 yr old male with UTI from e coli. What could cause this? Was at a water park recently. Ct scan good. Showed mild bladder wall thickening.
Not from water park.: It is extremely unlikely that you would receive any innoculation of bacteria from exposure in a water park that could traverse your (male) urethra to cause an infection. Without a stone, I would suggest that you were likely dehydrated. Have you had any infections before? You may need to be evaluated for subclinical prostatitis that could manifest as bladder outlet obstruction/bladder thickening.
Will treat UTI: gemifloxacin will treat an active urinary infection but will have no direct effect upon bladder wall thickening. Bladder wall thickening needs a followup with a urologist to do serial ultrasounds and/or a cystoscopy (scope into the bladder examination) especially if smoking or other risk factors for bladder tumors exist.
Urologist prescribed Gemifloxacin 320mg and Nortiptyline 25mg for 14 days for bladder wall thickening, prostate burning and ejaculation problems.
What's the question?: You say what was prescribed and why, but you did not ask a question. Please ask again and tell us what you want to know about this. There is a 150 character limit, so keep it brief, but as complete as possible.
A recent CT scan revealed bladder wall thickening, and my last two urine cultures showed "moderate" and "heavy" blood. What could this mean?
Cystitis, obstruction: Inflammation or utis cause bladder thickening. Bladder outflow obstruction, e.g. Tight, non relaxing bladder neck, prostate enlargement, urethral vaves or a urethral stricture causes all cause bladder trabeculation (enlargement of bladder muscle fibers). Also neurogenic bladder, detrussor-sphincter dyssynergia (sphincter conractswith voiding) but should relax & bladder reflux all cause thickening.
What could cause circumferential thickening of the bladder wall? Ct scan said mine was 8mm...I read that this is above norm. Is that true?
Upper limit: Of normal for bladder thickness is 5-6 mm. Thickening can occur from multiple causes. From your symptoms I would suspect increased internal bladder pressure from prostate enlargement (causing the wall to thicken) or inflammation/infection of the bladder (cystitis). A urologist can help sort this out.
48 white male severe dysuria, moderate hematuria x 4wks. Failed bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) doxycycline, rapiflo. Cysto:thickening anterior bladder wall; cause?
Possible obstruction: The bladder wall becomes thickened if it is working against resistance, such as scar tissue or narrowing of the urine channel, or in some neurological diseases. Bladder thickness is variable and it is sometimes not a problem. It can also be a tumor, but that is rare. Get a copy of the x-ray or ultrasound report that made the diagnosis and show it to your doctor or to a urologist.
Bladder wall: Thickening of the bladder wall is not a disease, it's a clinical sign. In other words, it's something a doctor can see on ultrasound or CT scan, but it is only INDICATIVE of a possible disease...it does not CONFIRM any particular disease. It can be anything from a very mild problem to very serious problem, and you must follow up with your doctor to discover the diagnosis.
Outflow obstruction: To bladder such as enlared prostate or urethral stricture in males or bladder prolapse or obstructing ureterocele in females. Can also be due to neurogenic bladder dysfuction in either sex or cystitis can also be reported if bladder is only partly filled ; appears thickened on ultrasound. Can also be a perfectly innocent finding..
Gallbladder: Thickening of the wall of the gallbladder may represent irritation or inflammation from gallstones. Sometimes this can also indicate a recent actue painful attack from gallstones. If you are having symptoms from gallstones then yes it is time to strongly consider laparoscopic gallbladder surgery to remove the problem.
