Your doctor should check the stool for blood and if positive conduct an investigation for the source. Nah: Significant blood loss (more than 3-4 ounces of blood), especially from upper sources, e.g. Stomach, duodenum , small bowel, less likely from right colon, can give black, tarry stol, with a typically characteristic odor, often loose (blood is a laxative):melena (black). Should get evaulated: Being a 26 y/o female, it is likely that you have irritable bowel syndrome and with the frequent loose stools can cause significant anal/perianal irritation, at times bleeding from it. If you have been having symptoms for yrs, ibs is likley. If this is new, something else maybe causing your symptoms such as ulcerative colitis etc..I recommend consulting your doc for an eval. Need more info: It would be important to know your age. Black specks could be blood. Could be from bleeding somewhere in your colon or a hemorrhoid. Not likely: From the standpoint of the medical profession, black stools -called melena - are always assumed to be blood. Usually representing bleeding from stomach or "higher up" within the intestines. Colon bleeding usually is red.
