Its from smoking: The "tars" - all the hydrocarbons and organic crud in cigarette smoke (you know the stuff that turns the filter and your fingers dark yellow and brown) is trying to get out. You need to quit. As the famous philosopher yoda from star wars said - there is no try, there is just "do". See your doctor for evaluation, you may have COPD and need treatment, and see if there is lung infection/bronchitis. ...Read more

I have been sufferring from headache for over 7 months now. I also spit out mucus coming from the back of my nose alot and sometimes with black things?

Probably a sinus problem: Headache and a lot of postnasal drip which is the mucus you talk about suggests a sinus problem. This is likely coming from allergies. The black in your mucus is probably old blood from sinus irritation. An allergy pill, nasal irrigation, and a nasal steroid would probably help but you should see an ENT specialist first. It would be fine to start with your primary care doctor and then on to an ENT if he couldn't solve it ...Read more

A black eye from hit. Bleed a bit from nose then stop. Eye has small red on the white back on the side. Mucus/saliva with small blood in mouth Spit. Er?

Need an eye exam.: It's prudent that you get examined by an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. The small red spot that you are describing sounds like a sub conjunctival hemorrhage which is due to a blood vessel that was damaged under the white membrane of the eye. In itself it's not dangerous but trauma to the eye may be associated with glaucoma, retinal tear, blood in the anterior chamber known as hyphema, etc. ...Read more

Got hit in my face 3-4 days ago. Now have black eye. Bleed a bit from the nose then stop. Now see mucus/salive with small blood through mouth split. Er?

Nose or eye: There could be two reasons for this finding. First is that the trauma that you sustained could have also caused damage to the inner lying tissues of the nose or it can be due to the fact that the nasolacrimal duct which drains tears from our eye is draining blood from the eye. Either way you must see an ophthalmologist to get thoroughly examined. ...Read more

Also if this is new and the amount worse should be evaluated. You do not mention smoking history so if you smoke or did then need to see your primary md. ...Read more

Is having a little spit in mucus during the morning a serious cause for concern for a 30 yr old (smoker)? I have stoped for 2 days can I observe more?

Spit in mucus smoker: No it is not cause for concern if there is no blood in it. This sucks: If you find any way to teach a 7 month old to "spit", you'll win a nobel prize in medicine. They cannot nor can they be taught to do that at that tender age. You have to suck it out for them. If they cough and/or gag on mucous and you can hear it in the back of their throats or in their mouths, take the bulb syringe for nose sucking and use it in mouth & throat. This will clear the secretions. ...Read more

I've had constant yellow mucus that I spit out a handful of times a day for the past 3 months. This started happening after I got bronchitis.

Exam needed: This suggests chronic bronchitis at this time. I presume that you are not smoking. A good examination of your lungs is needed with a chest x-Ray as well. If no lung pathology is seen, I recommend a course of antibiotics effective against bronchitis causing bacteria. Medications such as amoxicillin, augmentin, ceclor, avelox, levaguin are examples. ...Read more
