Dr. Lynne Weixel answered:

How does blue cohosh cause miscarriages?

Causes contractions

Contraction
Wisdom says: Avoid this in most all cases. There are certainly some who know how to make good use of ancient herbal therapies, but very few. This is powerful stuff and quite toxic. Action is complex, but vaso-constriction is part of it. It induces labor regardless of the readiness of the fetus. Steer clear or be prepared for facing a medical emergency.

im 35 weeks pregnant with my first child ive heard of blue cohosh to induce labor would it be safe to take blue cohosh after 37 weeks?

Myths

Labor
No. It is not safe. The last thing that develops well is the lungs. Once the lungs are mature enough to survive they begin to leak an enzyme that helps the pregnant uterus to begin labor. Please let this happen naturally.

Is it actually necessary to take vitamin supplements?

Possibly

Vitamin
Vitamins by definition are vital elements of our bodies building blocks that we do not make.We can extract many from dietary intake and others as supplements. Those following a well balanced and diverse diet need fewer supplements than those on a narrow or restricted diet. In the US it is hard to find foods that don't have various vitamin fortifiers added. We usually eliminate any excess daily.

Dr. Randy S. Baker answered:

Are vitamin supplements equivalent to eating fruits/veggies?

NO!

Vitamins_and_supplements
I strongly advise everyone take a quality multivitamin as the vast majority of Americans don't get adequate vitamins & minerals from their diet, but vitamins are NOT a substitute for a healthy diet. Fruits & veggies have a complex mix of hundreds of phytonutrients like carotenoids, flavonols & anthocyanins that aren't found in vitamin supplements. Eat fruits/veggies of all colors for good health!

No

Vitamin_deficiency
A balanced diet will take care of vitamin requirements. Vitamin supplements would be a waste of money.

Which vitamin supplements interact negatively and should not be taken together?

List is too long

Extremity-upper-hand-thumb
there are too many out there; good rule of thumb is to avoid taking too many things together; Find a Good Whole food organic supplement that provides everything. My favorite is alpha sun from simplexity Health or Moringa Tree from Zija. for details check my website at www.MedacPC.com

Need more info

Recommendations differ depending on your health status, gender, age, and goals, etc. You have shared nothing about your diet, goals, or current status. So, your best bet would be to consult a physician skilled in nutrition and Integrative Medicine. You can find one through American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine: http://www.abihm.org/ At the very least, most need a good multivitamin.

Too much of a vitamin may be toxic to the liver and nervous system (peripheral). Always take vitamin supplements under the direction of a physician who will give the right guidance
