What are the cons of exclusively pumping breast milk and feeding baby using bottle versus breast feeding?
Efficency: It's more efficient to breast feed than to pump & then bottle feed. You also avoid any risk of less than perfectly sterile bottles causing the milk to carry an infection. In addition, baby's nursing tends to trigger you to produce more milk than pumping. That said, having breast fed both my kids, pumping when i was away & nursing when i was with baby was a very effective compromise. ...Read more

Common problem: You may be very sensitive. I would suggest being very gentle to your skin as well as aggressive in its care. Put your milk onto your nipples to give it a coating for protection. In addition i would try a lanolin cream or ointment in between feedings, then wipe off gently before next feeding. Moisturize the surrounding skin for more soothing relief. ...Read more

Possibly: If the piercing hits into the ducts, milk flow could be affected. Production should not be a problem, but you may be more prone to mastitis and/or have some minor problems with let down of the milk. That being said, I have known many women to breast feed without any problems who had history of nipple piercing, so I wouldn't rule it out just based on that. ...Read more

Newborn jaundice : No breast milk does not prevent newborn jaundice which will happen to most of newborn. Usually breast feeding newborns may have more jaundice than formula feeding babies. Tea isn't "needed": "Dieting" is not needed, as long as the breastfeeding woman eats only as many calories as needed to maintain her normal (pre-pregnant) weight. For example, if she was 120 pounds before pregnancy and is now 145 pounds, she should eat just enough for a 120 lb woman. Her 25 lb excess will be gradually used up in the production of breastmilk (25 ounces of breastmilk contains about 500 calories). ...Read more
