Talk to your PCP: If you are 50 you are due for a screening colonoscopy. Your PCP should be able to hand you guaiac strips to check your stool. Do not take any over the counter meds- specifically Advil, Motrin, Aleve (naproxen). Hope it helps. ...Read more

Taking peptobismol : Peptobismol can indeed cause dark stools whether you are pregnant or not. Upper gastrointestinal bleeding can also do so. The concern is that you could be taking the peptobismol for a condition that causes bleeding. Check with your OB about the problem and have it evaluated. Be safe. Hope this helps. ...Read more

By itself? Not very: Your question is not very specifications you should resubmit. I assume you are inquiring about abdominal discomfort. It is a reasonable over the counter first aid but if symptoms are severe or persist its not going to cut it.
