Cleft Chin: Filler injection is a very easy treatment for a cleft chin with little recovery. In the past, collagen injections were used, generally due to lack of better options. Currently, hyaluronic acid fillers (restylane, juvederm) and calcium hydroxylapatite (radiesse) offer better long term correction than collagen -3 months vs 6 months or more. ...Read more
None - avoid vacuum!: Vacuum extraction is a dangerous intervention that is almost never necessary. Normal delivery, cesarean section and forceps delivery are much safer for the fetal brain and life. Fda has issued a statement since 1999/2000 raising awareness of the severe and potentially life-threatening or neurologically devastating complications from vacuum deliveries. I have not used one since 1999. ...Read more
Love 'em to death ?: A couple approaching childbirth has a limited knowledge base, preferring the "never would happen to me" approach. Some think that if problems arose they could just call an ambulance and things would be fine. In the best of situations it would take an hour to get to a specialized delivery room or operating suite. Minutes lost can mean permanent injury or death. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How effective is shoulder stabilization surgery? I'm a yoga instructor. Multiple dislocations & inherent ligament laxity. What are my odds?
What are the best exercises 16 months post spinal cord stimulator implant surgery? Besides a recumbent bike, is Pilates an option? Weak core.
An approach: I prefer starting with a physical therapist working in a warm water pool, and doing gentle exercises initially. Later, one could start some core exercises working on back and abdominal musculature. At some point, an experienced personal trainer should get involved. The equipment is not the key ingredient, instead, the human support and interactional education. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Many people relax by reading a novel, lying under a tree in the park, or socializing with friends. ...Read more

Will wearing compression garments help in post hernia repair(on jan 2014), hard ball like seroma in abdomen and strengthen surgery areas?
No help now: There are some repairs in the literature that have shown a benefit in preventing seromas by using a compression garment, but once one forms, it will most likely not help make it go away faster. I less it is causing problems, such as pain, or enlarging significantly, i tell my patients to proceed about their usual activities as it should resolve within 6 months. No need for ct scans or ultrasounds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What are the pros and cons of hospital delivery w/epidural vs. Natural birth at a birthing center?
? birthing center ?: Safety is the prime concern I have for deliveries. I have had relatives born in caves & understand it can be okay.I have also run to "normal" deliveries to salvage a baby that came out wrong. Our local facilities have midwives delivering next door to docs, where a case can be quickly moved to an OR for C section if needed. No off site birthing center can eliminate the hour + lost in a transit. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Bikram Yoga: Working with a bikram-certified yoga teacher in the moment is the best way to learn the breathing techniques needed. S/he should give proper instructions. In some poses you are breathing normally, but keeping your lungs 80% full at all times; in others like forward bends you are exhaling completely. Pairing the breath with the pose being done is key. http://tinyurl.com/nfc6aqg. ...Read more
No evidence: There's no evidence that can confirm whether or not bouncing the ball will truly help to induce labor , nor is there evidence for walking or standing or doing any number of exercises. It certainly does not hurt so long as you don't fall. Sometimes bouncing makes you feel more comfortable and that in itself is a benefit. ...Read more

Instead of having someone do this for you, you can do this yourself with balls or foam rollers. At home, at work or in the car. Rig up your seat. Or lay down on the floor. The humble tennis ball can help you heal. Take a deep breath and then sigh with relief. It feels great! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Wtloss home delivery: The positives about home delivery are portion control and ease of use.I imagine the companies that deal in home delivery would allow you to purchase a "sample" program to see if the food is to your taste after all, if the food is not to your liking-you will not becommitted to the program. I still advocate one"regular" type family meal per day. Please have your dr evaluate the nutritional content. ...Read more
