Additionally, patients with borderline personality disorder are excessively reactive to closeness or abandonment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

When someone as being diagnosed with bipolar disorder 1, can that person change personalities.? Like two diffrent people?
What is the difference between mild bipolar hypomania and feeling of falling in love? And which of those two experiences is generally more intense?
Love vs Falling: It's a bit cynical, but some would say they might be indistinguishable. And, especially if you limit it to mild hypomania - falling in love might be the winner in an intensity competition. Really, there is something a bit crazy about how we feel at that time (i've been helpless in its' grip). A difference could be that some mbph folk could be a bit irritable, not delightful. Loving's different. ...Read more

Two family cancer caregivers are going to go head to head in an argument. Both are bipolar personalities. Any advice to give them?
No: But you can make sure the cancer patient has an advocate to intervene. You can tell them to put their concerns and wishes in writing and have an independent third party read what they have written and make decisions that they will accept. In all things put the best interest of the patient ahead of any other interests. If the patient is in the hospital, enlist the support of the hospital staff. ...Read more

Why do psychiatrists start pts on lamictal & not on trileptal for bipolar? What are the main differences btw the two as they’re both anticonvulsants?
LTB better: Lamotrigene has been studied in bipolar 1, 2 depression and unlike Oxcarbamezapine-Trileptal, it has shown benefit. The drugs work differently, OXC blocks sodium channels and LTG additionally blocks glutamate which is an excitatory brain signal from the frontal cortex to the basal ganglia. This seems to impact mood and rumination. OXC has more use for anxiety and with juvenille bipolar clinicaly ...Read more

I was just recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. I also have bipolar ptsd OCD and add.what am i to do i have two docs but im scared?
Fear not! - try CBT: From your query, it is clear that you are often very distressed and both you and those close to you suffer. It's not the # of docs, but your work-relshp w/ them that will help. Personality Dxs are NOT an additional 'illness' - merely a description. In fact, this must be said of other psych Dxs to a degree. Rather than labels, work to manage behavior/feelings/thoughts thru CBT skills. Best! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
