Biotin Benefits And Side Effects
Another supplement..: Biotin deficiency is rare, but can occur in persons with genetic mutations, on long-term antibiotics or anti-convulsants, or who eat a lot of raw egg whites. There is no good evidence that this over-the-counter supplement is needed, because normal people eating a regular, balanced diet should get enough of it from their foods. ...Read more

Glowing: I am unsure if you want your skin to glow, or are already glowing and want to stop. Either way, biotin is unlikely to make it happen. It certainly has not been rigorously tested to see its effectiveness. That being said, it is safe in normal doses. Side effects can include acne, allergies and an increased risk of miscarriage. ...Read more
Seems very unnatural: Not a natural thing to do. Biotin deficiency is rare, but can occur in persons with genetic mutations, on long-term antibiotics or anti-convulsants, or who eat a lot of raw egg whites. There is no good evidence that this easily available, over-the-counter supplement is the magic potion for anything. Biotin is safe to take, but 10000 mcg per day is over 60 times the usual dose, so is not advisable. ...Read more

Very safe but...:
Biotin is considered very safe and non-toxic in even very high doses. However, there are reports of high doses (over 2500 mcg/day) causing acne in some, but I am unaware of studies proving this. There is also concern high doses might interact with some seizure meds.

Is taking biotin healthy? Does it cause side effects? What pills are natural& r recommended for hair growth that will only grow the hair on scalp..
No magic bullet: I will invest heavily in any food which has proven efficacy in promoting hair growth. Hair growth is dependent on many factors including hereditary, stress level, hormone status (thyroid), iron level etc. I have no problem with biotin but it will not likely add a strand of hair to your scalp. See a dermatologist if you are the only one in the family with scanty hair growth. ...Read more
I have read a lot about biotin being good for healthy hair/hair growth. Is it safe to take? Are there any side effects? What is the max dose per day?
Very safe, no, 16 mg:
Biotin has many benefits. While deficiency is rare, there may be benefits to taking relatively high doses. It's not known to be toxic and has no side effects. There is no "max dose" considered dangerous but the highest dose researched is 16 mg/day (which is safe).

No one knows: The internet is full of accounts of folks who believe big doses of biotin help hair, cradle cap, diabetes and much else. 5 mg is 5000 micrograms, in the lowish-range. Seems safe. The online reports from users are anecdotal; anyone can have a single pimple or short acne flare at any time, and people taking huge doses don't predictably get acne. Suspect "faces in the clouds". Waste of money: If you don't have a biotin deficiency, which is very uncommon, taking a biotin supplement will do nothing for you. As it is water soluble, the body will not even store it so it offers no long-term benefit. ...Read more
