Can skin tags be cancerous? I have a skin tag on my eyelid, i was doing some research on the internet, and i read that sometimes skin tags are really the beginning stages of skin cancer. Is it standard procedure to do a biopsy when one is removed?
Skin : Skin tags are benign lesions; however, occassionally a skin cancer, wart, seborrheic keratosis, or other growth can look somewhat similar to a skin tag. A dermatologist is trained to differentiate between lesions and help determine if there is any risk (and biopsy when necessary). I put up a picture of a skin tag below. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
Fleshy mass under top eye lid (lacrimal gland) i went to the opticians he said it's not a cyst or stye no fluid within it referred me for a biopsy ???
Evaluation : Presumably you saw an optometrist who advised a biopsy of a fleshy mass located in the lacrimal gland or by it. The referral to an ophthalmologist would be the next step, who will be able to advise you on the differential diagnosis of this mass. Sometimes other testing is necessary before considering a biopsy (blood tests, imaging). A tissue biopsy may be advised when definitive treatment required ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Could be: a few different types of benign eyelid growths like epidermal inclusion cyst, hidrocystoma, or milia. A picture would be helpful, but best to have this checked out to make sure it doesn't need to be biopsied or removed. Take care. ...Read more
Inflamed? or not?: If still inflamed, you should have an ophthalmologist evaluate this and consider a biopsy for the presence of a skin cancer. If it is quiescent and is a buried pea like lump, it is probably a chalazion which is a cyst around the former stye and is benign although an ophthalmologist can remove this if you want. ...Read more
I have a spot on my eyelid that looks like a dry skin patch. It is slightly raised. Should I be concerned?
My right lower eyelid is a bit swollen and hurts . Please advise what it can be and what should I use to fix . Thanks in advance .
Chalazion (stye): A distinct nodule with tenderness and redness of the lid is often a stye (chalazion). Warm compresses x 30 minutes 2 x/day often helps. Also, 1/2 cup of rice in a knee high pantyhose that is microwaved for 15 seconds (and testing on the skin to make sure it is not too hot) is useful. Recurrent chalazia or ones that do not respond to heat need to be seen by an ophthalmologist +/- biopsy. ...Read more

Big red bumps at his back. Red bump at eyelids. Medium red bumps left side of his face. Is it an allergy? What medicine should he take?
Maybe, can't say: Dermatology diagnoses are typically made visually. Then re-examined, or biopsied and looked via microscope, often with special stains, then blood tests are drawn. Hives, bites, viral rashes, contact allergy, medication allergy, too many possibilities here; get seen by provider. Use antihistamines first, low dose topicsl steroids. Think about possible exposure: plants, cosmetics, adhesives, etc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
