Biopsy External Ear
Hard lump discovered 2 wks ago behind ear. Dr said if not gone in 4 wks then biopsy. Should I wait on biopsy longer than that if no other symptoms?
Your call: If it is stable, and not painful, it is very unlikely to be anything beyond a bit of scar (quite firm ) or a piece of mastoid process (bone hard) or a benign inclusion cyst (sort of firm and smooth). Full information before you allow biopsy and consider imaging first -- there is an important nerve nearby. ...Read more
Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
I'm 27 and just diagnosed with hashi's. My biopsy for a nodule gave inconclusive results. I have slight ear and chest pain. Should i be concerned?
Not the thyoid: If you have hashimotos, it is common to have a nodule, and the bx would likely be inconclusive. Don't worry about it. You may become hypothyroid some day. The ear and chest pain probably has nothing to do with the thyroid. Get the chest pain checked out but it could be anxiety. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have an enlarged lymph node behind ear that the doctor wants to biopsy. Incidentally, my TSH is also mildly elevated (5.01). Could this be related?
Enlarged node: It is accepted practice to biopsy an enlarged lymph node that was recently noted and hasn't receded after an observation period of a couple of weeks or more. Mild elevation of the tsh would raise the suspicion of hypothyroidism but I doubt any relationship to an enlarged lymph node behind the ear. Other thyroid parameters can be done to look for an underactive thyroid gland. ...Read more
How long could it usually take for DLE(if at all)to develop into SLE?.Blood test and urine OK.Biopsy soon.red patch in ears and scalp steroid working.
It usually doesn't: If you feel well, and the labs aren't worrisome with any of the specific antibodies characteristic of systemic lupus, you'll probably only have to worry about the discoid lesions which -- if that's really what it is -- can be troublesome enough. Best wishes and good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
