Biofeedback (Overview)

Simply feedback of information to you about your own internal biological activity. You then use that information to learn self regulation. You can't learn a skill without feedback of your performance. Biofeedback gives you information of functions you're usually unaware of -- muscle activity, breathing, heart rate, sweating, skin temperature, brain waves, etc. -- allowing you to regulate them.

What are the benefits of Biofeedback?

Safe, non-drug rx: Biofeedback uses sophisticated electronic equipment to monitor various physiological functions and presents this information to the patient in real time. We can monitor heart rate, blood pressure, skin conductance, brain waves, skin temperature, and other signals. By observing this information one can learn to CONTROL aspects of your physiology. For: migraines, ADD, anxiety/stress, HBP, +more

Can biofeedback be dangerous/cause negative medical response?

Doubtful: I am not aware of any dangers or negative medical responses to biofeedback. Certainly we need further study before it becomes a mainstream treatment for some things. But for migraines and for pelvic floor disorders, it is a recommended treatment. I'm not clear from your question if you are talking about a particular biofeedback, however.

What site or app for biofeedback can you recommended that's not too pricey?

Try this one. . .: "deep sleep" by andrew johnson. Now get a comfy reclining chair, darken the room, and block out the rest of the world. This app is really hypno therapy rather than purely biofeedback, but it's probably the type people need for dealing with stress. This same individual makes similar apps for other purposes.

What are biofeedback machines?

What are biofeedback machines?

Electronic devices: That measure biological reactions and feed the information back to you with simple signals. They help you learn to regulate your body's response to stress or to correct a dysfunctional body response. The most common instruments measure muscle activity, heart rate, breathing, skin temperature, sweating, or brain activity. Check with www. Bcia. Org and www. Aapb. Org for info & certified therapists.

Where can I learn biofeedback?

Where can I learn biofeedback?

Simple Technologies: You can start with some simple technologies - devices, computer programs &/or apps to give you feedback. You might want to try working on lowering your heart rate (pulse), for example. Check out "ibiofeedback": http://bit. What are the side-effects of Biofeedback?

Generally safe...: There is no evidence of significant harm that can be done in the process of biofeedback. That said, it may not be the best treatment for every issue and will be more effective for some people than others. So clarify your specific situation with a doctor and what to expect prior to engaging in such treatment.

What's the diffference between neurofeedback vs biofeedback?

Focus on brainwaves: Biofeedback can monitor a variety of body functions like heart rhythm, temperature or galvanic skin response. Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that monitors brainwaves. It may help people achieve deep relaxation and help treat conditions like adhd, autism and epilepsy. Drug addicts who practice neurofeedback have much lower relapse rates. See comments: http://www. If someone cannot be successfully hypnotized is it likely that neuro biofeedback will not work in that same patient?

Not necessarily: The ability to be hypnotized is related to being willing and able to surrender your will and trust the hypnotist. The ability to do neuro-feedback involves following directions and focusing attention but does not require trusting someone else. Thus, one who can not be hypnotized might still be successful with neuro-feedback.

17
Is biofeedback effective therapy?

Yes.: Biofeedback has been proven effective for many disorders and conditions. The best source of information is the association for applied psychophysiology and biofeedback (www. Aapb. Org) and the biofeedback certification international alliance (www. Bcia. Org).

What do you do in biofeedback clinic?

Sensor/body readings: Sensors are attached to your body to record data such as heart rate, breathing rate, galvanic skin response (sweating) muscle activity and other similar physical phenomena. The data is recorded in the context, usually, of patients who are battling anxiety and/or depression. Typically biofeedback is used to help patients use their mental faculties to self-sooth and relax.
